Diseases/Health
Conditions
To gain a better understanding of how diseases and health conditions affect
what we eat and how it affects our bodies, you will be creating an eye-
catching assignment that can be displayed for all students! You will create a
poster or large format infographic.

In a group of 2 or 3 you will be choose a disease/health condition to focus

on. Below is a list of diseases/health conditions. Each group is to select one
and no group can choose the same.

 Cancer  Lactose intolerance
 Diabetes  Celiac disease
 Heart disease  High Blood Pressure
 Crohn’s disease  Osteoporosis
 Inflammatory Bowel Disease

YOUR ASSIGNMENT MUST INCLUDE:

1. A description of the disease/health condition
2. How the disease/health condition can affect your diet
3. Food sources of the nutrient
4. How much of the nutrient is supplied in those foods
5. What can happen over the long and short-term if you don’t change the
way you eat when you have this condition.
6. Strategies to ensure you meet this requirement

Your assignment should be neat, colorful, and visually attractive!

- Don’t copy/paste from the internet – Remember, the internet is

a great tool, but it’s for your research only!
- Hand-drawn pictures always look more impressive than ones that
are “cut-and-paste” from the computer – and are often more colorful
(an important part of the assignment is the visual attractiveness!)
