Most of the students find the Class 12 Physics subject difficult.

This is also due to the vast

syllabus and derivations that are there in both parts of the NCERT class 12 Physics book. But, If
students plan well and pay full attention from the beginning of the session, then they will surely
understand the subject and start taking an interest in it. They need an organized and well-
structured study plan. Here we have provided the preparation tips for CBSE Class 12 Physics
Board Exam that will help the student in making a proper study plan for themselves. But before
we go on to the tips, here are the important points that should be noted while preparing for the
physics board exam.

Points to be Remembered While Preparing for Class 12 Physics

1. The Physics board exam strictly follows the NCERT textbook as it covers the entire class
12 Physics syllabus. So students are recommended to study from the NCERT Class 12
Physics book.
2. Students should have important formulas at their fingertips so that they can answer the
numerical questions quickly.
3. Students must practice each derivation at least thrice so that the exam won’t take much
time.
4. The Physics Paper has a mandatory drawing question either of a graph or a device.
Students should pay attention to the key features of the diagram to score full marks on
this question.
5. Students should solve previous year’s class 12 physics question papers with a time slot
of 3 hours. This will prepare their body and mind for the actual examination.

CBSE Class 12 Physics Preparation Tips

Here are a few preparation tips for class 12 Physics that will help students to prepare for the
board exam effectively.

1) Know the Weightage of Each Unit of Physics Subject

Students must know the weightage of each unit. Based on that, they can give more time to those
units which carry more marks.
Along with these, students must also be well versed with the exam and CBSE Class 12 Physics
Syllabus. This will give them an idea of question paper patterns and help them keep track of how
much they have covered in the syllabus.

2) Make Notes for Each Chapter

Students should build a habit of making their own notes while studying. In this manner, they will
prepare study notes for each chapter which will help during the exam. Students will be able to
recall the Physics concepts just by having a glance at them.

3) Topic Wise Strategy: How to Prepare for CBSE Class 12 Physics

Students who are weak in maths and solving numerical problems must concentrate on the theory
chapters such as Communication, Electromagnetic waves, Dual nature of radiation and matter,
Atom, Nuclei, and Wave optics. These chapters are completely theoretical, and students can
score more marks here. So, concentrate on these chapters while preparing. Also, they can focus
on Devices such as Galvanometer, Cyclotron, Potentiometer, Transformer, Meter Bridge, and AC
generator as it constitutes the theory part.
Students who like to solve numerical problems must focus on the first part of the Physics book,
which consists of chapters like Electric charge and fields, Electrostatic potential and capacitance,
Current electricity, moving charges and magnetism, etc. They can also study the chapter
depending upon the weightage of marks allocated to it.

4) Design a Proper Study Plan

Students should prepare a daily study schedule in which a minimum of 1 hour should be
allocated to the Physics subject. While making the schedule, students should take some time to
analyze their previous preparation and find out the topics in which they are weak and strong. This
will help them to prioritize their preparation for the board exam. The study schedule should be
time-bound, and they must follow it. This will create positive pressure on students and help in
completing the tasks more effectively.

5) Preparation Strategy Few Months Before the Physics Exam

There are two major things that help students in the last-minute preparation for Physics when
they are left with 1 or 2 months for the exam. These are Revision and Self-evaluation of
preparation level.

a) Revision:
Revision is the most important part of physics, as the students have to deal with a lot of formulas
and derivations in each unit. Once a chapter is completed, it is better to revise that chapter first
before moving on to the next chapter. This will help in having a strong foundation in the subject
as the topics are interrelated. Students must go through the syllabus once again during revision
to check if any topic has not been left.

b) Self Evaluation:
The best way to evaluate the exam preparation level is by solving the different types of Physics
class 12 sample papers and question papers. After attempting a single paper, give proper time
for self-evaluation. Students must go through the answer sheet and check where they have
committed mistakes and how they can be improved. Work on those areas to improve the overall
performance in the class 12 Physics board exams. In case students incurred with any doubt,
then they should clear it with their teacher.

5) Practice, Practice, and Practice

The famous quote “Practice makes a man perfect” is applicable to students as well. The more
students will practice, the more will be their chances of scoring high marks. Students should
make sure that they have solved a minimum of six to seven previous years’ Physics class 12
papers. This will provide a better understanding of the exam pattern as well as the type of
questions asked in the Physics paper. During the exam, students must utilize the question paper
reading time to decide the sequence of questions that they are going to follow. It is advised that
the students first start with the 5-mark questions.
