PRESS RELEASE

The Thousand Island Area Habitat for Humanity’s (TIAHFH) ReStore, located at 938 Water
Street in Watertown, will be closing on June 10, 2023. Unfortunately, as with many local
businesses, the ReStore, never fully recovered from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The
ReStore provided the community access to affordable furniture, appliances, and building
materials. After careful consideration, the Board of Directors has made the decision to close the
store and focus on its core mission. TIAHFH’s anticipates organizing projects to bring people
together to build homes, communities, and hope. TIAHFH hopes to support the community by
constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes for families in need of a hand-up.

The ReStore has been open since 2018. Over the past five years, the store has served many
families and individuals by reselling gently used donations. Proceeds from these sales directly
support Habitat’s mission in the Jefferson and Lewis County area. TIAHFH believes that
everyone deserves a decent place to live and is committed to helping individuals and families
break the cycle of poverty.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should
have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety. Following the closing of the ReStore,
Habitat of Humanity hopes to enhance its mission through a new build or recycling of an existing
house within the community. The organization is actively seeking volunteer board and/or
committee members who are enthusiastic about Habitat and the mission. If interested, please
reach out to Mike VanWormer, Executive Director, at 315-755-1407 or
executivedirector@tiahabitat.org.
