Mozart: Minuet in C, K. 6 24/30

There was precision in the placement of the phrases and you played with warmly nurtured
tonal projection. The tempo was a little on the cautious side and the minuet’s style and
character wasn’t fully apparent, while there was scope for more rhythmic evenness in places,
but overall this was a positive account.

Trad. Irish: Down by the salley gardens, arr. Blackwell 25/30

There was sensitivity in the approach and you established a positive feeling of flow and line.
There needed more shapely phrasing in the melody, and the phrases sometimes were too
broken up as you continued, while more rhythmical control was possible in places, but you
engaged with the music’s mood.

This was paced well, and a certain poise and control pervaded. There needed more contour
in the figurations as well as greater tonal consistency in places, but you maintained an even
sense of flow and the phrases were generally well directed.

A lively sense of character and spirit was present and you played with positive rhythmic lift.
There was a tendency to rush in places, and the rhythms weren’t always rhythmically firm,
particularly when playing the quaver figures, but much of this was played with stylish intent.

Performance as a whole 25/30

There was focus and conviction in your performance, with characterful engagement often
effectively achieved providing a good sense of differentiation between the various styles in
the programme. The performance was paced well, and while the tempo choices could have
been more carefully aligned with the musical moods, there was a feeling of expressiveness.
The delivery wasn’t fully assured, needing more rhythmical control in general, but mostly
this was a positive performance as a whole.
