2. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Leadership is often cited as a key competency that is sought in potential employees.
This course is designed to increase students’ awareness of the different theoretical approaches
to leadership; leadership styles and encourage a basic understanding of the practices of
leadership; The course also prepares you for any leadership role you may have, now or in the
future and improve your skills in the group contexts
This course will be conducted with a variety of teaching techniques including lectures,
cases, assessments, articles, class discussions, and experiential exercises.

3. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:


* Knowledge
1. Identify the leadership’ s importance, distinguish the differences between
leadership and management
2. Explain the meaning of power, different types of power in leadership and their
impacts on employees’ commitment and compliance.
3. Describe the traits, characteristics, behaviours and motives of effective leaders
and their impacts on performance and employees’ satisfaction.
4. Explain the leadership styles posited by the various leadership theories and
concepts as well as their impacts on performance and employees’ satisfaction.
5. Explain the leadership styles that are suitable for specific situations as the
situations faced by leaders which required the adaption of leaders.
6. Explain and distinguish between charismatic, transactional and transformational
leadership; Explain the meaning and roles of strategic leadership and key
competencies of strategic leadership;
7. Explain the meaning and methods of leadership development.

8. Develop key leadership skills such as motivating others, public presentation skills
(speaking and body language, use visual aids to support)
9. Build self-learning and self-study skills
10. Build and enhance problem-solving and decision-making ability in management
situations in general, and in human resource management in particular.

6. COURSE POLICIES
6.1 Requirements for final examination
Students are allowed to take the final exam only if the following conditions are
satisfied:
- Students must attend at least 70% class periods (11/15 sessions)
- Attendance is also required for all examination/ assignment periods. Students are
expected to pass at least 50% of those examinations. For courses those only requires one
examination, students are expected to earn at least 5 points out of 10.
- For an absence to be excused, the absence must be accompanied by a written
excuse from a doctor or other competent. If a student is absent for more than an allowed
number of sessions for the university’s mission, the instructor then can consider and decide,
but must ensure that no more than 60% of the sessions are taken and additional instruction is
required under the supervision of the instructor.
6.2 Bonus point policy
- Students who contribute in class discussions and are recognized by the teacher
(enrollment cards) will be credited to the attendance, mid-term and final scores.
- Students can propose and get the consent of the lecturer to write the subject matter. If
the essay is of good quality, it will be considered bonus points for mid-term or final exams.
6.3 Assignment policy
All assignments must be the result of the students own work and effort.
- If 40% similarity is detected; the assignment’s score will be deducted.
- If more than 40% similarity is detected; the assignment will be zero-scored.
- Late submission will result in 10% deducted from assignment score for each day late.
- Missed work or more than 3 day late submission will be zero-scored.

7.2. Assessment Criteria


 General rules for all written documentations
All works are presented on A4 sized paper, size: 13 or 14, font: Times New Roman or
Arial; margin settings as follows: top 2.5 cm, bottom 2.5 cm, left 3.5 cm, right 2 cm; line
spacing 1.5.
 Group work
- Form: Group presentation and report
- Instructions for Group video presentation and report:
A. Group video: each group will make a video from 10-15 minutes about a leader that
you know and his/her leadership - Deadline: Lecture 12
B. Group report: each group will write an academic report (20-30 pages) on a leader that
you know and his/her leadership including: Introduction, Literature review, Research
Methodology, Findings and Analysis, Recommendation and Conclusion, References,
Appendix) – Deadline: Lecture 13 (Participation Assessment (%) of each member –
No one in group has the same score: Student A 90%, 91%,… 100% = 95%) Group
work: 9.0  Student A = 9.0 x 8=90%
- Criteria:

 Final examination:
- Form: Written test
- Content: all materials covered in the course schedule.
- The test is composed of two parts:
- Multiple choice questions (30 questions) : multiple-choice (account for 60% of
final score)
- Exercises: 2 questions (account for 40%)
- Criteria:
+ Giving precise multiple-choice answers: 6 points
+ Clear, structured, informative exercises: 4 points
Total: 10 points
