Chapter 2

CREATING BUSINESS WRITING

Writing was and still is a very valuable and popular form of communication. Especially in a
business environment, the way a person expresses his thoughts and opinions in writing is very
important. As Professor Barnes said, communication is the path to success, so it is extremely important
to develop and expand one's writing ability and knowledge. By taking this course, I not only had the
opportunity to practice writing, but also had the opportunity to receive constructive criticism from
professors with in-depth knowledge of the subject.
I believe this class will really kick-start my career as a business writer, I will benefit from all the
lectures and exercises as they will improve the quality of my writing for the rest of my life. Writing has
never been a passion or love for me, but I find it useful and plan to achieve some of my writing goals
with the help of this course. My first goal that I hope to achieve is to write accurately and directly.

In class, ideas for direct and interesting writing were suggested, especially for business related
writing. In the past, I've struggled with things like too long sentences and too descriptive writing, so I'm
hoping to gain an understanding and habit of writing clear, precise. The second goal that I want to
achieve is related to my grammar skills. I have never been confident in my grammar skills, learning
business writing will be very helpful for me in improving my grammar so that I can apply it to my future
career and to explore the writing process, reflect on the role that emotions play in your writing process,
evaluate your own writing process and find ways to remove barriers you encounter.
