INTRODUCTION

The cleaning and sanitation of basic materials and surfaces are one of the most basic and important
steps before starting an experiment. The most effective way of preventing contamination and ensuring the
great quality of its products handled and/or produced. A facility, not only its machines, but also its surfaces
and workers, which undergoes regular sanitation and cleaning assessment.

The Swab Contact method is a method to pick up micro-organisms from surfaces, especially from
smooth surfaces like metals, plastic and glass on which the ordinary loop would be ineffective. Also,
according to Pei Yang, Swab sampling is a physical interaction between the swab and the substrate. The
process generally compromises several manual steps, and is an inherently subjective activity that varies
from operator to operator.

The objective of the experiment is to assess or determine the microbial load of surfaces of
equipment and human hand and to determine effectiveness of cleaning agents and thoroughness of
cleaning procedures for the purpose of sanitizing equipment.

The purpose of the experiment is to ensure that the users of the equipment use proper sanitation
and hygiene practices and that the equipment are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition, free from
serious contamination. The environmental swabs can be used to assess process control and hygiene in
food industries. The method will check if cleaning and sanitation has been done adequately by the
operator. The sample will be taken from surfaces, equipment and other items after cleaning and sanitation
steps are performed by the operators to assess effectiveness of process. After cleaning and practicing
proper sanitation and hygiene, the surface of the working place, equipment and operator are clean, and
microbiological results will be clear. This experiment is a reminder that proper sanitation will not only keep
us away from contacting certain diseases but also make us more conscious of the things we use in
preparation of our food and other daily acts. Us being conscious of the cleanliness of the materials we use
would pave way to lesser breakouts and greater quality of the food we prepare.
