Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

Students will be able to differentiate shapes and be able to name them.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Students will read the directions and color the shapes in different colors depending on what the
directions say. Then students will name each shape.
Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

Students will be handed a worksheet that has multiple different shapes, and they will have to
color each shape to their group and be able to differentiate how each shape looks like. They
have been working with shapes for the past week and a half, so this relates to what they are
currently learning.

CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the
teaching of this lesson plan.)

The Common Core State Standards say that students should learn to differentiate different
things. In this case, shapes, which can help students learn how shapes are related to the real
world and the difference between 3D shapes and 2D shapes. I will help students group the
shapes into their corresponding groups.

Instructional Procedures
• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)

I will hand the students their pencil and ask them to write their name and wait for my
instructions. If I need their attention, I will use their school's ‘cougar’ sign. If I need to
talk to one student specifically, I will call their name to get their attention.

• Instructional Strategies (Describe each of the instructional methods you will employ
during the lesson.)

My lesson plan will be indirect instruction because some of them are going to be going
at different paces, but if a student needs help, it will become direct instruction because I
am going to be helping that student one by one.

• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to
participate?)

I will call their name and politely ask them to bring their attention to the worksheet. If
that doesn’t work, I will lead them step by step throughout the worksheet, so they are
fully focused on doing their work. I will look at each student's paper and observe them
to make sure that some of them are not behind or stuck on a problem. With students
who need help, I will guide them step through step toward the answer.

• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the
lesson?

I will ask students to name the different shapes while they are working. I will talk to
them about the worksheet if they are distracted to bring their attention back to the
lesson (ex. ask them a question about how they can get to the answer).
• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

I will check their answers and collect the papers from them and ask them to line up for
the next table rotation.

• Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning
targets?)

I will look over their paper as they are working on it to check if they were able to do it
correctly or if they are at least trying. I will also remember the students who asked
questions and make sure that they were able to understand the material.
