Founding

● Borneo Cultures Museum, which has been in the works for four
years, is Sarawak's latest landmark and cultural institution

● Dato Sri Ar John Lau Kah Sieng, Sarawak's first and famous
architect directed the RM308 million project. (Sarawak
Museum Department, n.d.)

● It is Southeast Asia's second biggest museum, with a total floor


area of around 31,000 square metres
History
● The establishment of the museum contributes significantly to the
integration of various ethnic groups

● The structure is iconic as the committee chose the winning design from a
competition among architects

● Conscious measures were taken to preserve the surrounding nature and


reduce the carbon imprint

● Only green building materials and utilised wood products certified by the
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) were used

revenue of the community and the nation
● According to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun
Openg (2022), this will promote employment and have other direct
and indirect economic consequences in the service sector, which will
help Sarawak's gross domestic product (GDP) develop.

● Provide exposure to the community about heritage and culture in Borneo
● This is so that the community can become interested in learning more
about the legacy and culture that are being emphasised thanks to the
museum that was established.
● According to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun
Openg, BCM is expected to serve as a learning centre and draw more
academics and researchers from both local and international institutions
as part of our efforts to become better educated about the rich history,
culture, and natural beauty of Borneo.
