WHAT IS
COVID-19
COVID-19 is the disease caused by the new
coronavirus known as SARS-COV-2. The first
became aware of the existence of this new virus on
December 31, 2019, when it was informed of a group
of causes of "viral pneumonia" that had been
declared in Wuhan (Republic in China)
CAUSES
It spreads mainly between who ar in
close contact (about 2 meters). The
virus is spread by respiratory droplets
when a person who has the virus coughs,
sneezes, breathes, or talks. Those who
are nearby can inhale these droplets, or
they can land in their mouths, eyes, or
noses.
The virus is also spread if you touch a
surface that has the virus on it and then
touch your mouth, nose, or eyes
although the risk is low
CAUSES OF SMOKING
TO COVID
Smoking tobacco is a risk factor in many
respiratory infections that increases the severity of
this type of disease. For this reason, after reviewing
different studies, the World Health Organization
(WHO) established that smokers are more likely to
develop severe symptoms in case of suffering from
Covid-19 compared to non-smokers. Covid-19
mainly attacks the lungs. In turn, smoking tobacco
impairs lung function, making it harder for the
body to fight this disease. In addition, smoking is
also an important risk factor for cardiovascular
diseases, some respiratory diseases, diabetes and
cancer. And it is precisely this group of people who
have a higher risk of developing severe symptoms
if they are affected by the new coronavirus.
CAUSES OF SMOKING
TO THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

At least 98 substances have been identified in

tobacco smoke with the capacity to be toxic at the
pulmonary level. The most damaging are oxidants,
acrolein, formaldehyde, nitrogen oxide, cadmium
and cyanide.
The total dose of toxicant from each cigarette
received by the lung will vary depending on the
type of tobacco, the volume and number of puffs,
and the anatomical characteristics of the lung that
determine the distribution of gases and the
deposition of particles.
CAUSES OF SMOKING
TO THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Although there is less evidence than with active

smoking, passive smoking has been related to
alterations in lung development, COPD, asthma,
and other respiratory diseases. Maternal smoking
during pregnancy, often inseparable from passive
smoking in early childhood, has been associated
with various pulmonary diseases and symptoms
such as the risk of wheezing, increased bronchial
hyperresponsiveness, decreased lung
development, and bronchitis.
