SUBJECT AREA:
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE - 12
SUBJECT TEACHER: KENNY JOHN C. GRUSTAN T- II
EIM 12 – Learning Activity Sheets No. 3 for Weeks 3-4

Name of Student: _______________________Grade and Section:__________

Competency: Reading Electrical Wiring Diagrams (TLE_IAEI9-12ET-IIe-f-2)

Objectives: At the end of the week, you shall have

❖ describe the common electrical diagrams in wiring installation
❖ create a schematic, pictorial and wiring diagrams
❖ appreciate the importance of interpreting electrical diagrams

CAPTURE – Input

COMMON ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS

1. SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
A diagram that uses lines and schematic symbols to illustrate or
represent a circuit.
TRANSLATED KEY POINTS: (Intervention)

Ang schematic diagram kay mugamit nan linya ug symbol para makapakita nan
parte ug koneksyon sa circuit.

Common schematic symbols used in schematic diagram:

BATTERY
BULB OR LAMP NOT CONNECTED CONNECTED WIRE
WIRE

FOUR-WAY SWITCH THREE-WAY SWITCH SINGLE SWITCH

CONVENIENCE OUTLET CIRCUIT BREAKER

FUSE
Example of Schematic Diagram

A lamp is controlled in one

location using single switch.
The circuit is supplied by a
direct current source –
battery.

Schematic Diagram of a Simple Circuit

2. PICTORIAL DIAGRAM
A diagram that uses graphic drawings or pictures of a real object
to illustrate or represent a circuit.

TRANSLATED KEY POINTS: (Intervention)

Ang pictorial diagram kay mugamit nan piktyur nan tinuod na itsura nan gamit para
makapakita nan parte ug koneksyon sa circuit.

Common images or pictures used in pictorial diagram:

BULB OR LAMP

CIRCUIT PANEL CONVENIENCE SWITCH UTILITY BOX

BREAKER BOARD OUTLET

LAMP HOLDER

FUSE SAFETY
JUNCTION WIRE
SWITCH BATTERIES
BOX
Example of Pictorial Diagram

A lamp is controlled in
one location using single
switch. The circuit is
supplied by a direct
current source – battery.

3. WIRING DIAGRAM
A wiring diagram is a simplified conventional pictorial representation
of an electrical circuit. It shows the components of the circuit as simplified
shapes, and the power and signal connections between the devices.

It usually gives information about the relative position and

arrangement of devices and terminals on the devices, to help in building
or servicing the device.

A pictorial diagram would show more detail of the physical

appearance, whereas a wiring diagram uses a more symbolic notation to
emphasize interconnections over physical appearance.

TRANSLATED KEY POINTS: (Intervention)

Ang wiring diagram kay pina simple na pagpakita nan circuit gamit an drawing na itsura
nan mga materyales, aktwal na position kun han dapit an materyales nakabutang,
sanan plastado na koneksyon nan mga wire para mo-function an circuit.

CARRY-OUT - Process

Activity

Direction: On a clean sheet of long bond paper, create a schematic

diagram, pictorial diagram and wiring diagram of the following circuit
situations:

1. Supplied by alternating current source, (fuse or circuit breaker) two lamps

in series are controlled in one location using single switch.

2. Supplied by an alternating current source, (fuse or circuit breaker) Lamps

A and B in parallel are controlled in single location using single switch,
while Lamp C is controlled by another single switch. An outlet is
connected in the circuit.

PERFORMANCE TASK

Task Sheet

This task may require you to research online. You may use the YouTube or
Google search engine.

Direction: Create a schematic diagram, pictorial diagram and wiring

diagram of a circuit supplied by an Alternating current source, where two
lamps in parallel are controlled in two different locations using Two 3-way
switches. A convenience outlet is connected in the circuit. Place this in a
clean long bond paper and don’t forget to write your name on it. Label
this as Performance Task.
