B-144 - Datasheet - PSV
TECHNICAL NOTES:
1) The Vendor shall be responsible for all engineering design, sizing, selection, fabrication, materials of construction, inspection, testing and
documentation of the Pressure Safety Valves.
2) The Pressure Safety Valves shall be suitable for permanent use in outdoor areas & marine environment. All Pressure Safety valves shall use
materials, resistant to corrosion due to the process fluid which they will or may come into contact internally and to ambient air environment to
which they are externally exposed.
3) Pressure Safety Valves desgin, sizing & material selection shall be in line with API 520, API 526, API 527 and ASME Sec VIII. Vendor shall be
responsible for the design, sizing, selection, fabrication, materials of construction, inspection, testing, documentation and supply of relief valves
assemblises in accordance with this datasheet and applicable international codes & standards.
4) All engineering design, materials of construction, fabrication, inspection, testing and certification shall confirm to the appropriate national
standards and codes in effect at the time of order placement.
5) Ther Pressure Safety Valves shall fully comply with latest editions of all relevant codes, standards and specifications listed below and in other
documents mentioned above.
ASME B1.20.1 Pipe Threads, General Purpose
ASME B16.5 Pipe flanges and flanged fittings
ASME SEC.VIII Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code Section VIII "Pressure Vessels"
API 520 Sizing, Selection and installation of Pressure-Relieving Devices in Refineries: (Parts I and II)
API 521 Pressure Relieving and Depressuring Systems
API 526 Flanged Steel Pressure Rellef Valves
API 527 Seat Tightness of Pressure Relief Valves with Metal to Metal Seat
API RP 576 Inspection of Pressure-Relieving Devices
6) The Prussure Safety Valves shall be Conventional Type. However the Balanced Bellow / Piston type shall be considered where the Built-up
back pressure is too high for Conventional type valves of where the superimposed back pressure varies widely compared to the set pressure.
Prior approval shall be sought before proceeding on the same.
7) Selection of proper orifice size shall be in accordance API Std. 526 which provides standard effective orifice areas in terms of letter
designations.
8) An Allowable over pressure limit of 10% shall be considered during the sizing of pressure safety valves and consider allowable over
pressure limit of 21% for fire case.
9) The following shall be the minimum sizing details provided by VENDOR for individual valves at bid stage:
11) Where ever the process conditions conflicts with the valve selection. VENDOR shall propose all altenative valve types that may be
suitable.
12) Vendor shall meet all appropriate Codes & Standard for Gas / Vapor / Liquid Services. All Valve Sizing shall be submitted for approval.
13) All valves shall be flanged as per ASME B16.5: flange rating and flange finish shall be as mentioned in the individual datasheet.
15) The bonnet shall be bolted / screwed to the body of the pressure safety valve and material shall be same as the body. The bonnet shall be
closed bonnet in order the safety valve completely contains the relief fluid and avoid possible hazards to personnel.
16) Closed bonnet of pressure valves shall have vent connections. Vent connection shall be NPS 1/2 inch. as a minimum. Closed bonnet
pressure relief valves shall have threaded of bolt caps over spring adjusting screw.
17) In general, safety valves shall have metal to metal seating surface i.e seat shall usuall be integral with nozzle. Seat Tightness shall be in
accordance with API Std.527. VENDOR shall recommend the Soft seat design if required and hence the O ring material.
18) The spring material shall be selected according to the inlet fluid temperature. The spring shall be selected to allow the setting to be
adjusted up to 10% above of below the specified set presure.
19) Valve body gaskets shall be fire safe. Metal of flexible graphite are consideres fire safe. Other materials shall be subject to Purchaser
approval.
20) Shutoff leakage shall be in accordance with API Std. 527. VENDOR shall type of seat based on application.
21) Pressure safety valve testing shall be performed in accordance with API RP 526 and 527.
22) All Pressure Safety valves and accessories shall be clearly and permanently identifiled with their respective nameplate. The nameplate shall be
stainless steel with corrosion resistant cover and shall be affixed to the valve. Wire-on labels are not acceptable. The following information shall
be shown as minimum.
