ACTIVITY #1
1. Culture is learned and shares. YES or NO. Why? (10 points)
Yes, because culture can be learned and shared through social interaction of the
people live in a certain society or community. By simply sharing your knowledge about
your own culture to other people, it can be a way for them to absorbed as knowledge or
learnings. One of the examples of this is my experience as I transfer my residency and
schooling here in Cavite. I am born and raised in my home province in Southern Leyte,
so until now I still adjusting myself in this unfamiliar environment, especially using other
language. My classmate noticed that I have my hard accent speaking in Tagalog, so she
asks me if I am transferee. I answered yes and I also shared about my mother tongue
which is Bisaya. She was amazed and she also tell me that she is also a transferee from
Surigao, and because of it we talk about each other cultural background.

2. Why do we need to preserve our culture? (10 points)


We need to preserve our culture because it is the way to identify who we are.
Culture reflects our traditions, beliefs, values, customs, and others which are the basis of
our identity as a human being live in a certain nation or country. One illustration of this is
the fact that we Filipinos are seen as being deeply religious and conservative. It is
because we colonized by the Spaniards for almost 300 years that shape our very own
culture, especially our traditions, beliefs, and customs. According to Asia Society, the
Philippines proudly boasts to be the only Christian nation in Asia. The knowledge of our
culture being passed down from one generation to the next is another reason why it is
important to preserve it.
3. Why do we need to study Philippine Popular Culture? (10 points)
We need to study our very own Popular Culture because, it is our way to know
and fully understand the different trends in our culture that have existed in our country.
Cultures that are already affect us in our daily life, especially our lifestyles. Currently,
people are very exposed to popular cultures in many ways. It can give us a connection to
the other people. One of the examples of this is the different platforms of Media. By
simply watching a television or reading different articles it can give us a certain
knowledge about what the existing trends that can relate to our own unique Filipino
Popular Culture.

4. Why is it important to preserve our culture as a Filipino? (10 points)


As a Filipino, it is crucial to preserve our culture, because it is all about protecting
our identity who we are. Culture composed mainly our beliefs, traditions, language,
values, and customs. It is our means to recognize ourselves from others. Our nation is
unique because it is diverse in terms of our culture. It is extremely influenced by the
colonizers for many years, that has played a big role in us, especially to our system of
living from then until now. As a student, one way to preserve our Filipino culture is to
share our knowledge to others. So they can also be learned what are the importance of
knowing and preserving our culture as a Filipino living in our beloved country, the
Philippines.
