Word Forms: Root Word, Prefixes, Suffixes and Affixes

Outcomes:

At the end of the lesson, the students can:

A. Understand the function of root words, prefixes, and suffixes.

B. Create new words by adding prefixes and suffixes to root words.
C. Appreciate vocabulary through applying prefix, suffix and affixes in daily life

 Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation

 Smart Television
 Speakers
 Player (DVD)

Procedures:

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance of each group
d. Review of the past lesson

B. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION

1. The teacher will share a PowerPoint presentation and discuss the

objectives of the lesson and;
2. Will explain the definition of root word, prefixes, suffixes and affixes

C. ACTIVITY
 The teacher introduces the song of Justin Bieber entitled:
Purpose
 Each group must discuss the word parts (root word, prefix
affix, and suffix)
 The group will present their outputs and identify the word
parts.

D. ANALYSES
1. What characteristics have you discovered about the word
parts?
2. Through the underlined words from the song Purpose by
Justin Bieber used it in a sentence

E. ABSTRACTION

The teacher will give or ask a student to give the summary of the discussion
1. Again, what is the importance of word parts?
2. Define Prefixes and it’s usage
3. Define Suffixes and it’s usage
4. Define Affixes and it’s usage

F. APPLICATION

After listening to Justin Bieber’s Purpose, what have you

realized about the importance of applying prefix, suffix
and affixes in your daily life?
