Class 9

Chapter

Atomic and molecular mass of elements, compounds and mixtures

 Symbol of an element; their valency; their formulae of radicals; and the formulae of compounds.
Balancing of simple chemical equations.
 Symbol
 Valency – hydrogen combination, multivalent elements, valence electrons of metals and non
metals.
 Radicals
 Compounds
 Chemical Equation
 Mixtures – nature and characteristics.

 Relative Atomic Masses are also known as atomic weights, and Relative Molecular Masses are
also known as molecular weights: either – standard H atom or 1/12th of carbon 12 atom.
 The Definitions
 Calculation of Relative Molecular Mass and percentage composition of a compound.

Please Note:

1. A total of 10 MCQs with correct answer and explanation required from this chapter.
2. Frame 2/3 critical NUMERICALS related to the chapter guidelines.
3. Please make sure to use as many varieties as possible and applicable (Assertion/reason type,
statement based type, strategic type, case based type, multiple response type, “which is not the
correct reason” type)
4. Frame questions that are twisted/ challenging (not bookish/ direct throw ones) but strictly
adhere to the syllabus guidelines and content designated for class 6 standards. (twisted
question doesn’t mean questions from higher classes)
5. Refer to ICSE & CBSE books for contents.
6. Please DO NOT use any question or any similar ones (incl images) already present in other
Edtech websites or books or can be Googled. It creates copyright issues. Also, such questions
will NOT be accepted
