Executive Summary
The proposed project aims to analyze and evaluate the production and operations management of Friesland
Campina formerly Engro Foods, because Friesland Campina acquired 51% Stake of Engro Foods in 2016. The
main objective of the project is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the Company’s production processes and
operations management strategies, and to provide recommendations for improvement. The project will involve a
comprehensive study of the company's production and operations management, including an analysis of the supply
chain, inventory management, quality control, and other relevant factors. The data will be collected through
interviews with employees, site visits, and analysis of relevant data sources.
The project will be conducted over a period of 2 months and will involve a team of 5 researchers with expertise in
production and operations management. The project will be led by a project manager M. Hassan Usmani, who
will oversee the research activities and ensure that the project is completed on time. The expected outcomes of the
project include a detailed report on the company's production management, including an analysis of the strengths
and weaknesses of the current strategies, and recommendations for improvement. The report will be shared with our
Instructor Syed Amir Ali Shah with insights and recommendations that can be used to improve the company's
production and operations management, and ultimately increase its competitiveness and profitability.
Introduction
Engro Foods Limited is a Pakistani food and beverage company that operates in the dairy industry. The company
was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan. Engro Foods is a subsidiary of Engro Corporation,
which is one of the largest conglomerates in Pakistan. In 2016 Friesland Campina, a Dutch Dairy co-operative
acquired 51% stake of the company for US $450 million. Friesland Campina has a diverse range of products,
including milk, flavored milk, yogurt, ice cream, and dairy-based beverages. The company is known for its flagship
brand, Olper's, which is the largest selling milk brand in Pakistan. Other popular brands include Olper’s Lite, Tarang,
Dairy Omung, Omung Lassi, and Omore. The company has a strong distribution network, with products being sold
in over 200 cities across Pakistan. Friesland is committed to sustainable and responsible business practices, and has
implemented various initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint and support the communities it operates in.
Objectives
1. To identify the organizational competitive edge and operations strategy of Olper’s Dairy Milk.
2. To examine the concept of productivity and its measurement in Olper’s Dairy Milk.
3. To identify the forecasting needs of Olper’s Dairy Milk and how these are fulfilled.
4. To examine the product/service design elements of Olper’s Dairy Milk.
5. To identify the production process and facility layout of Olper’s Dairy Milk.
6. To examine the concept of quality, its control, and management in Olper’s Dairy Milk.
7. To identify the inventory needs of Olper’s Dairy Milk and how these are managed.
8. To identify the key operations and production management performance parameters among the above areas
and related issues/problems and underlying causes.
9. To recommend specific interventions that may improve the production and operations of Olper’s Dairy
Milk from the perspective of the focal manufacturer or service provider.
10. To provide insights into the possible cost-benefit analysis, challenges, and outcomes associated with the
interventions.
11. To identify the problems being faced by Olper’s Dairy Milk or could face in the future.
Methodology
Methodology used to collect data in our project includes both primary and secondary data, for primary data collection
we will conduct Interviews from company by visiting the production facility of Friesland Campina, Surveys can be
conducted to gather information from employees, customers and other stakeholders, Observational data can also
be collected by observing the production and operations management processes in action. Moreover, for the source
of secondary data we will get it through Company records like financial Reports, Production Reports, Inventory
Report. Government Statistics that includes industry reports and trends and other Trade Publications like Journals
and Magazines.
