Question 1:
Organic chemistry is important because it is the study of life and all of the chemical reactions
related to life. Organic chemistry plays a part in the development of common household
chemicals, foods, plastics, drugs, and fuels most of the chemical’s part of daily life. Functional
groups are important in chemistry because they are the portion of a molecule that is capable of
characteristic reactions.
Find an organic compound which contains different functional groups
a. Draw the structure of the compound in expanded and skeletal form.
[2 marks]
b. Circle and name the 3 different functional groups present in the compound.
