Comparative and Superlative

When we want to compare or mention superiority among an object, person or concept


compared to another object, person or concept that has a different attribute.
We will use adjectives to make the ideas of comparison and superiority. Following some rules:
Adjective Comparative “er” Superlative “est”
One syllable finer / faster / colder the finest / the fastest / the coldest
fine / fast / cold
Consonant + Vowel + Consonant hotter / bigger / fatter the hottest / the biggest / the fattest
hot / big / fat
Consonant + Y happier / sillier / lonelier the happiest / the silliest / the loneliest
happy / silly / lonely
more modern the most modern
Two syllable more interesting the most interesting
modern / interesting / beautiful more beautiful the most beautiful

Note: There are four adjectives that don´t follow any rule:
