“I am a slow walker, but I never walk back”

These remarks by Abraham Lincoln superbly epitomize the enlightening experience I

experienced while walking. As I reflected on his words, I realized how essential walking for

health had been to my life, particularly during my time as a student. It serves as a reminder to us

that through walking, we have the power to change our lives and apply that change to make

ourselves better people. This subject, I believe, allowed me to learn more about what I lack in my

life, what I need to alter, and what I need to improve on.

As walking fitness students, we are asked to do a variety of tasks. One of these was the

walking journals. This particular activity, I believe, was designed to enrich our lives by

encouraging us to stick to our walking routines. Additionally, by maintaining consistency, we

may learn how to discipline ourselves in other areas of life and perhaps achieve better results

than previously. Through these journals, it gave me stupendous realizations that led me to ponder

on my life. These observations are the result of my brief but meaningful participation in the

waking journals.

We would also participate in the Rockport Challenge. First and foremost, this exercise

emphasizes our improvement. It demonstrates how far we've come by gauging how quickly we

can reach 1.6 kilometers. I had forgotten how difficult it was to walk this far, but seeing the time

I obtained after walking my first Rockport test jolted me awake and helped me realize that I

needed to improve my time. As a result, this challenge gave me the motivation to keep going, no

matter how difficult it was. I was able to enhance my time and regulate my walking speed thanks

to this empowerment.

Aside from the journals and the hurdles, I also encountered a challenge that I felt would

be hard to overcome: the Mileage. Initially, I lost all hope of completing this since the bar was

set too high and it appeared unachievable; but, if there is one thing that this experience has taught

me, it is that we should always persevere and never allow our hurdles to be the cause of our

defeat.

Ultimately, because we were acclimated to these types of exercises, the concluding task

appeared easy. But I had the impression that the difficulty came more from completing it on a

particular day than from the walking itself. This allowed me to learn self-discipline and effective

time management.

With the course coming to an end, I expect to carry the principles that I have learned in

order to develop not just myself, but hopefully others as well. Additionally, I think that these

teachings will permeate all aspects of my life and they will assist me in growing as an individual.
