HPLC filtration membranes
Selecting the ideal filter begins with understanding filter characteristics. Material, pore
size, flow rate, chemical compatibility, level of extractables, and application should all be
considered when choosing a membrane. We have included a list of membranes commonly
used in HPLC along with their distinguishing features.

Hydrophilic PTFE
Protect your results with HPLC-certified Millex® hydrophilic PTFE
syringe filters.
• Millex®-LG and Millex®-LCR filters contain hydrophilic PTFE membranes
and are HPLC-certified for low levels of UV-absorbing extractables.
• Hydrophilic PTFE membranes exhibit low analyte binding and broad
solvent compatibility, enabling filtration of aqueous and organic solvents.
Ordering Information
Choose the best diameter for your sample volume. We recommend our 13 mm Millex® filters for filtration of
1-10 mL samples and our 33 mm Millex® filters for filtration of 10-100 mL samples. These syringe filters have
color coded bands to easily identify the membrane type.

PES Express® Membranes
Fast flow rate for aqueous samples with PES Millipore
Express® Membrane
When filtering large volumes or heavily contaminated solutions, membrane
pores can clog, slowing the filtration rate. For these processes, Millipore
Express® polyethersulfone (PES) membranes offer the largest filtration
capacity. These filters have an asymmetric pore structure: the pores are
larger at the top, where filtration starts. The pore size then decreases from
the top face of the filter to the bottom, where the pore size is small enough
to retain bacteria (0.22 μm). This asymmetric pore design traps large
particles at the top so that they do not clog the tight pores on the retentive
side of the membrane, enhancing the filtration capacity and useful life of
the filter.
