MOU/Agreement Countries:
 To give a boost to skill development initiatives in hospitality sector and make apprenticeship aspirational
to the professionals, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the aegis of Ministry of Skill
Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and with due support from Ministry of Tourism signed an
MoU with Switzerland based Hotel and Tourism Management Institute (HTMi) to jointly provide
certificate, diploma, advance diploma and certification courses in hospitality trades to the aspiring
students. Also, a tri-party MoU was signed by NSDC, HTMi and Lamrin Tech Skill University (LTSU).
 India and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding on research, technology and innovation
collaborations with focus on several key technology areas like Aerospace, Electronics Instrumentation &
Strategic Sectors; Civil, Infrastructure & Engineering; Ecology, Environment Earth & Ocean Sciences and
Water; Mining, Minerals, Metals & Materials; Chemicals (including leather) and Petrochemicals; Energy
(Conventional & Non-Conventional) and Energy Devices; Agri, Nutrition & Biotech and Healthcare.
 India and Australia signed a Framework Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications that will help
ease the mobility of students and professionals between the two countries.
 A Memorandum of Cooperation, MoC was signed between India and Sweden to strengthen cooperation
and promote research networking between research institutions from both countries. The MoC aims to
promote mobility funding opportunities in both countries.
 India and Australia joined hands in working towards investment in critical minerals such as Lithium and
cobalt to develop supply chains between the two countries.
 Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that Australia and India will aim for 100 billion
dollar trade in the next five years as they are dissatisfied with the 30 billion dollar of trade between the
two nations.
 Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
Organisation (CSIRO), Australia's national science agency, have joined hands by signing a Letter of Intent
to encourage joint cooperation to drive innovation activities in areas of national challenges and shared
priorities of both countries.
 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi signed an MOU with the PSC Mauritius, to conduct
examinations for Medical and Health Officers, Senior Medical Officers, Dental Surgeons and Senior Dental
Surgeons to join the Public Service in the Republic of Mauritius.
 The Union home ministry has cleared a proposal for signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU)
between India's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on
prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals.
 India and the US inked an initial pact on increasing private sector cooperation in the area of
semiconductors under which the two countries would facilitate business opportunities and develop an
ecosystem with a view to reduce their dependency on China and Taiwan.
 India’s top explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp has signed a memorandum of understanding with French
major TotalEnergies for exploration of deep-water blocks.
 India and Japan have signed two documents on the sidelines of the bilateral talks between Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The agreements include the Renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation in Japanese language, and
Exchange of notes on JICA loan for 300 billion Yen on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed railway
project.
 Nepal and India have agreed to formulate a modality to supply electricity from Nepal to multiple states of
India through central transmission line via Bihar grid.

 Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, announced that its business Godrej Tooling
has partnered with Renmakch, to collaborate on Machinery & Plant (M&P) projects for Railways and
Metro Rail, offering world-class equipment that is ‘Made in India’.
 Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the principal financial institution engaged in the
promotion, financing and development of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ShowReel for developing an online digital platform
aimed at providing handholding support to aspiring innovators with practical-based hand holding
demonstration and equity funding to channelise ideas offering solutions to multitude of problems.
 Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Brahma
Kumaris Mount Abu at Dr. B.R Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi for Nasha Mukt Bharat
Abhiyaan.
The MoU is signed for spreading the message of NMBA among the youth, women, students etc.
 The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) under the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry; and the National
Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed an MoU to strengthen value-based sports
education amongst school children and teachers.
 Ministry of Rural Development has extended its memorandum of understanding with the National
Institute of Fashion Technology, NIFT, to provide design support for the products made by Self Help
Groups of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission, NRLM.
 Tata Steel Mining Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gas Authority of India
(GAIL) Limited, in order to reduce carbon footprint in its operations, and for the supply of natural gas to
its Ferro Alloys Plant at Athgarh in Odisha's Cuttack district.
 Global security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin and Tata Group have agreed to start fighter
wing production at their joint venture facility at Hyderabad. As per the Memorandum of Understanding,
deliveries for 29 fighter wing shipsets will commence from 2025.
 Ecofy, an NBFC supported by Eversource Capital that provides green finance for climate-positive
segments, announces a collaboration with Mahindra Solarize, a provider of technologically superior and
creative renewable energy solutions.
 Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Rural development today signed Memorandum of Understanding to
collaborate in developing skilled personnel by imparting training to rural poor youth and women’s for
Ayush healthcare system under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY).
 V.V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI), an autonomous body of Ministry of Labour & Employment

The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden will bestow the 2021 National Humanities
Medals upon several recipients, including Indian-American actress, comedian, and writer Mindy Kaling,

International News:
 The Finnish parliament approved legislation allowing the country to join the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO). With this, the NATo will have 31 members.
 The government of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, has
announced plans to establish RAK Digital Assets Oasis, the world's first free zone dedicated to digital and
virtual asset companies.
 After months of intensive talks, the United Kingdom and European Union have unveiled an agreement on
the Northern Ireland Protocol, called the Windsor Framework. This is not a new protocol or a

fundamental rewrite of the current treaty. This package is an improved deal that could substantively ease
how the protocol will operate for businesses as well as individuals. It is a negotiating achievement that
marks a turning point in the long road since Brexit for Northern Ireland.

 Japan, the United States, South Korea and Taiwan have held the first meeting of senior officials under a

country, calling it a policy matter. It highlighted that there were different “dimensions” to menstrual pain
leave, and also that while menstruation was a biological process, such leave may also act as a
“disincentive” for employers from engaging female employees.
 With a view to develop sustainable and responsible tourist destinations and promote sustainable tourism
in the country, Ministry of Tourism (MoT) in association with Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel

 The government has removed the upper age limit of 65 years for eligibility for registration to receive
deceased donor organs. Now, a person of any age can register for receiving deceased donor organs. The
government has also decided to do away with the domicile requirement of the state for registration of
patients requiring organ transplantation from deceased donors.

 A total of 22 languages of India are included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India. In a

‘Learning Science via Standards’, a unique initiative for students for learning science via standards.
 The ‘Learning Science via Standards’ initiative focuses on a series of lesson plans aimed to use scientific
concepts, principles and laws to help students understand their practical applications in manufacturing,
functioning and testing of quality characteristics of different products as stated in the relevant Indian
Standards.
 To highlight the impact of women in sanitation and waste management, the Union Minister for Housing
and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri announced the ‘Women Icons Leading Swachhata’ (WINS) Awards
2023. The WINS Awards 2023 aim to recognize celebrate and disseminate inspiring and exemplary
initiatives in urban sanitation and waste management by women led organizations and individual women.
 The Central Railway has achieved 100 per cent electrification of its broad gauge network of 3,825
kilometers, which was resulting in an annual reduction of 5.204 lakh tonnes of carbon footprints.
 The number of subscribers under National Pension System has risen to over 6.24 crore, on 4th March,
from around 5.08 crores in March last year, showing a year-on-year increase of nearly 23 percent.
 On the other hand, total pension assets under management as on 4th of this month stood at 8 lakh 82

 The agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations during the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference.
The Agriculture Ministry has roped in cooperative Nafed for promotion of the government's millets
initiative at global scale, including installation of millet vending machines and setting up of an experience
centre in Delhi-NCR. Nafed, which has entered into a MoU with the ministry in this regard, will set up a
millet corner in Nafed Bazaar Retail Stores, install millet vending machines across Delhi-NCR.
 India stands third in the world in terms of fish production. The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of
Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has taken several initiatives for development of fisheries and
attract farmers towards fisheries along with agriculture to increase their income through its various
schemes.
 The Government of India has approved a plan to establish two lakh new multipurpose Primary
Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) / dairy / fishery primary cooperative societies for covering all the
remaining Panchayats/ villages in the country, with the support of State Governments, National Bank for
Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and
National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) through convergence of various existing schemes of
Government of India and by leveraging the ‘whole-of-Government’ approach in the next five years.
 A field visit to the Alwar district of Rajasthan was made for pilot testing of National Mobile Monitoring
System (NMMS) App and after checking its applicability, the NMMS App was launched.

 The Income Tax Department has launched a Mobile app, namely, ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ to facilitate taxpayers
to view their information as available in the Annual Information Statement (AIS) / Taxpayer Information
Summary (TIS). ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ is a mobile application provided free of cost by the Income Tax
Department, and is available on Google Play & App Store. The app is aimed to provide a comprehensive
view of the AIS/TIS to the taxpayer which displays the information collected from various sources
pertaining to the taxpayer.
Taxpayers can use the mobile app to view their information related to TDS/TCS, interest, dividends, share
transactions, tax payments, Income Tax refunds, Other Information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc.)
as available in AIS/TIS. The taxpayer also has the option and the facility to provide feedback on the
information displayed in the app.
 To curb the menace of drug demand, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE),
Government of India has been implementing National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).
Taking a step in this direction, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment is entering into an MoU with
the Sant Nirankari Mandal, Burari Road, Delhi for spreading the message of NMBA among the youth,
women, students etc.
 Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) and Ayush Shri Sarbananda SonowaI has said
India aims at becoming ‘Global Hub for Green Ship’ building by 2030 with launch of Green Tug Transition
Programme (GTTP). Inaugurating India’s first National Centre of Excellence in Green Port & Shipping
(NCoEGPS) in Gurugram, Haryana today he said the programme will start with ‘Green Hybrid Tugs’, which
will be powered by Green Hybrid Propulsion systems, and subsequently adopting non-fossil fuel solutions
like (Methanol, Ammonia, Hydrogen).
 As many as 1,068 products have so far been identified for promotion under the government’s flagship
One District One Product (ODOP) initiative across all 761 districts.
 Strengthening the key digitisation efforts, while clearing slew of reforms around Aadhaar, the Centre and
the Unique Identification Authority of India extended the deadline to link Aadhaar number with voter ID
to March 31, 2024. Earlier the last day to link voter ID with Aadhaar was next month April 1.

 An Indian delegation led by the Department of Commerce recently participated in the second round of

facility with an outlay of Rs. 4,445 cr for a period of seven years upto 2027-28. The Government has
finalised 7 sites viz. Tamil Nadu (Virudhnagar), Telangana (Warangal), Gujarat (Navsari), Karnataka
(Kalburgi), Madhya Pradesh (Dhar), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow/Hardoi) and Maharastra (Amrawati) for
setting up PM MITRA Parks.
 The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved a subsidy of
Rs.200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of Pradhan
Mantri Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY). As on 1st March 2023 there are 9.59 crore PMUY beneficiaries.
 The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) will use post offices and CSCs to serve their last-mile buyers,
sellers and service providers in the sphere of buyer-seller registration, product catalog uploadment and
other services. Gem will use the 1.5 lakh post offices of India Post and 5.2 lakh Common Service Centers
(CSCs) to enable the underserved sections to sell their products on the e-marketplace.

As per the latest data, loans worth ₹3.56-lakh crore have been sanctioned, of which ₹3.48- lakh crore

 Payment transactions via the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) network fell in February 2023 after
touching a peak in January 2023 and rising for seven straight months, according to data by NPCI (National
Payments Corporation of India).
UPI recorded 753 Cr transactions worth INR 12.36 Lakh Cr ($150.65 Bn) in February 2023, down 6.23%
and 4.77% MoM, respectively.
 Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said payments through UPI (unified payment interface)
have grown exponentially in the past 12 months with daily transactions crossing 36 crore, which is up 50
per cent from 24 crore in February 2022.

 The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Delhi-based leading public think-tank,
Centre for Policy Research (CPR), has been suspended by the Home Ministry on grounds of alleged
irregularities in handling of donations received from abroad.
 India’s FY24 GDP growth is likely to be higher than the threshold 6 per cent despite reports that an El Nino
climate pattern could trigger a drought, according to State Bank of India’s economic research report
“Ecowrap”.
Also, India’s per capita GDP at current prices is estimated at ₹1,96,716, compared to ₹71,609 in FY12,
implying a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.6 per cent, it said.
 India’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) declined to a 4-month low at 55.3 in February owing to a rise in
input costs, according to the S&P Global India Manufacturing PMI report. In January, the manufacturing
PMI stood at 55.4.
 In a first of its kind in the country, a short-haul coastal container feeder service was launched between
Chennai and Puducherry ports. To be operated by the Chennai-based Global Logistics, the 12-hour ferry
service is expected to help the trade avoid the congested road traffic and take delivery of boxes through
Direct Port Delivery (DPD) and Direct Port Entry (DPE) than using storage spaces like Container Freight
Stations (CFS) and Inland Container Depots (ICD).
 Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran expressed hope that the GDP growth for the current

 The maiden Joint Military Exercise FRINJEX-23 between Indian Army and French Army conducted at
Pangode Military Station, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
 Indian Navy has successfully undertaken Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) firing from INS
Visakhapatnam validating capability to engage Anti Ship Missiles.
The MRSAM was jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and
Israeli Aerospace Industries at Bharat Dynamics Limited.

 The defence ministry signed a contract for refit of the Sindhukirti submarine at the Hindustan Shipyard
Limited at an overall cost of Rs 934 crore.
Sindhukirti is a Kilo-class diesel electric submarine of the Indian Navy.

 The third edition of the multilateral exercise La Perouse was held in the Indian Ocean Region. It saw the

 In what is being seen as a major success for the “Make in India” initiative in defence sector, the Indian
Navy has received a fully indigenised fuze for an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) underwater rocket,
manufactured for the first time by a private Indian industry.

The Defence Ministry signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited BEL Hyderabad for
the procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems ‘Project Himshakti’ at an overall cost of
approximately 3000 crore rupees.
 In a huge boost to achieve Aatmanirbharta in defence, Ministry of Defence signed contracts with Indian
shipyards for acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and six Next Generation Missile
Vessels at an overall cost of 19,600 crore rupees.
 The Indian Coast Guard conducted Regional Search and Rescue exercise during 28 -29 March 2023 at
Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The aim of the exercise was to simulate a real time maritime distress scenario
and highlight the functioning of Search and Rescue (SAR) organisation for a mass rescue operation.
 Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, said that India’s defence export will touch Rs 35,000-40,000 crore
by the year 2026.
 Indian Army and Air Force conducted a joint exercise in the second week of March. The Multi-Domain Air-
Land Exercise Vayu Prahar in the Eastern Theatre was aimed at validating joint plans to prosecute
synergised multiple-domain operations.

 Researchers have discovered a new species of Moray eel at the Mudasalodai fish landing centre off the
Cuddalore coast. The species has been named after Tamil Nadu as Gymnothorax tamilnaduensis with
common name as Tamil Nadu brown moray.

 India has emerged as one of the highest global importers of coking coal (and pulverised coal injection) at
69 million tonnes (mt), accounting for 22 per cent of the world’s shipments in the calendar year 2022, as
per data collated by market research firm CoalMint.
 Telangana leads the country in terms of e-transactions per 1,000 population between June 2014 and

to the pandemic taking the benefit of the scheme.
 India has now been ranked at the 108th spot globally for electoral democracy, far behind nations like

Institute in its Electoral Democracy Report for 2023.
 The Swiss firm IQAir released the ‘World Air Quality’ report which says that India is the world's eighth
most polluted country in 2022, dropping from the fifth spot the previous year.
The two Indian cities in the ranking of the world's most polluted city are---Bhiwadi, on Delhi's outskirts,
which had pollution levels at 92.7, and Delhi followed close behind at 92.6.
Lahore in Pakistan jumped more than 10 places to become the city with the worst air in the world in
2022.

 Boston Consulting Group (BCG), in collaboration with PhonePe, India’s leading digital payments company,
unveiled a report titled, “Digital payments in India: A US$10 trillion opportunity”.
As per the report, India’s digital payments market is at an inflection point and is expected to increase
more than threefold from the current US$3 trillion to US$10 trillion by 2026.
 India is home to the fifth-highest number of female billionaires in the world. India has nine female
billionaires, with Savitri Jindal being the richest woman in India with a net worth of $17.3 billion.
According to a new International Women’s Day study from City Index, which went through Forbes’ real-
time billionaire tracker to find the country that is home to the most female billionaires, the US is at the
top of the list.
 Singapore Changi Airport has been named as the World’s Best Airport in 2023 for the 12th time in the
World Airport Awards held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam. Changi Airport also won the
awards for the World’s Best Airport Dining and World’s Best Airport Leisure Amenities.
 Bengaluru is among five global cities that have been recognised for achievements in preventing
noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries, with the Indian tech city's efforts in tobacco control
winning a USD 150,000 award by a leading global initiative supported by the WHO.

Happiness Report 2023 has found.

India ranked 13th on the index, marking only a marginal decrease from the previous year.
 Actor Ranveer Singh is India's most valued celebrity of 2022, according to a report by corporate
investigation and risk consulting firm, Kroll.
With a brand value of $181.7 million, Singh has dethroned cricketer Virat Kohli, who occupied the top
spot for five years, according to the report, titled “Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2022: Beyond the
Mainstream”.
 According to the data shared by the Ministry of Education, Bihar (61.8 %) has the lowest literacy, followed
by Arunachal Pradesh (65.3 %) and Rajasthan (66.1 %). Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India at 94%,
followed by Lakshadweep at 91.85% and Mizoram at 91.33%.
The literacy rate in rural India is 67.77 per cent as compared to 84.11 per cent in urban India.
 Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has received the award for the Best Airport in India and South
Asia, a report by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax said.
Singapore's Changi Airport is named the World’s Best Airport of 2023 followed by Doha Hamad airport. In
2022, Singapore ranked at No 3 while Doha Hamad had bagged the No 1 position.

 India is the second most targeted country by ransomware in the Asia-Pacific and Japan region in 2022, up
from spot 3 in 2021.
In 2022, Maharashtra was the most-targeted state with 36 per cent of ransomware attacks, while New
Delhi was at second, according to the Palo Alto Networks 2023 Unit 42 Ransomware and Extortion report.
 UN World Water Development Report 2023, a new report launched on the eve of the first major UN
conference on water in over 45 years says 26 per cent of the world's population doesn't have access to
safe drinking water and 46 per cent lack access to basic sanitation.
 Global trade in goods is likely to increase by about 1 per cent (year-on-year) in the first quarter (Q1) of
2023 while trade in services is expected to grow by about 3 per cent in the same period amid
deteriorating economic conditions and rising uncertainties, per UNCTAD’s latest Global Trade Update
released.
 India has secured the third position in terms of the number of self-made billionaires, with a total of 105
billionaires on the list, according to the 2023 Hurun Global Rich List. These 105 billionaires have a
combined wealth of US$ 381 billion, as per the report.
The two countries with the highest number of billionaires are China and the United States, which together
account for 53 percent of the world’s billionaires.
 26 per cent of the world's population does not have safe drinking water and 46 per cent lack access to
safely managed sanitation, according to a report published by UNESCO at the UN 2023 Water Conference
in New York.
As per the report, between two and three billion people experience water shortages for at least one
month per year, posing severe risks to livelihoods, notably through food security and access to electricity.
 Indian passport slipped six ranks on the Passport Index 2023 released by financial advisory services firm
Arton Capital.
The ranking was topped by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a mobility score of 181. It was followed
by Sweden, Germany, Finland, Luxembourg, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria, with a joint
mobility score of 174.
 The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has been ranked first in India and 47th globally in
Engineering and Technology in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for
2023. The institute scored 80.4 out of 100.The results were released. Overall, the institute improved upon
its 2022 performance by 18 places.
