WRITING ASSIGNMENT 3 – WEEKEND CLASS LEVEL 7B (YOUNG LEARNER)
1. Read the book review below.
Book Review Title: “If you are hungry for a good book, read on!”
2. Write your own book review (200 – 250 words). You must follow the rules below (a – d).
a) In the first paragraph, attract the reader’s attention. You can do
this by addressing him/her directly, especially with questions. E.g., “Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t put down?”. b) Use an informal style. You can even use some jokes – E.g., “So if you haven’t read it yet, buy it, borrow it, or steal it (just kidding!) as soon as you can. c) Choose a good title for your article. d) Give your review a good structure: Paragraph 1 – Introduction. Attract the reader and give some background information about the book. Give your opinion of the book for the first time. Paragraph 2 – Describe the plot and characters. Paragraph 3 – Mention what you liked/didn’t like. Paragraph 4 – Conclusion. Repeat the main idea given in the introduction, but using different words. It should also include the writer’s opinion and, if appropriate, a recommendation.
