Media and Information: a weapon

combatting societal issues

According to Statista, Social media usage is one of the most popular online activities. In
2021, over 4.26 billion people were using social media worldwide, a number projected to
increase to almost six billion in 2027.2 With the number of users of social media, it is but without
a doubt that any post could go viral or be a trend once it is posted online. This kind of power that
media and information wield is awe-inspiring enough to hold a strong force that could instantly
influence a person or even change the world.

One of the most frequent topics of today’s world is the societal issues that a country or an
individual is facing. We may have different backgrounds or different issues that we must face,
but the mere fact is that all of us want a solution to the underlying problems that had been
created. One of the solutions seen by the current generation is, addressing the problem through
social media platforms or even on online websites.

The information sent and posted on medias help people be aware of the things unseen or unfelt,
which then sometimes proceed to either the cancel culture or the approval of the mass. This kind
of strategy generates a sense of responsibility to spread the truth and solve the posted problem.
Helping the society to be helped by their locals, but also the people that have heard about the
news. In a way we can say that, once your voice was heard, it is getting amplified in so many
ways that your mind couldn’t fathom enough. You’ll just know that in just a simple information
posted, many are now willing to aware others and give a helping hand.
