Love Month Celebration Narrative

Report
Cliché as it seems “February is the month of love” and February 14 is the exact
day that other schools or universities held their valentines program, so we, the freshmen
of PSU San Carlos, lose hope to experience our first valentine’s event little by little as
March approaching. However, we got surprised when our school, Pangasinan State
University San Carlos Campus, declared to celebrate the post Valentine’s celebration by
executing a two-day event by February 23 and February 27, originally February 23 and
February 24 of 2023. The program had the theme “Heartbeat and Heartache” which has
various activities that every student could participate in, such as Essay Writing
Contests, Spoken Poetry, and Cinelikha. There are also various booths, such as jail
booth, photo booth, and so on. This booth was created to make the event more
memorable for everyone. The Supreme Student Council also created a game called
“bingo,” wherein you can win a tumbler, one ream of bond paper, a handkerchief, and
many more surprise prizes. And lastly, every department performed in one of the
segments of the event entitled “live band”.

On February 23, 2023, during the first day of the event, the program was
honored by our campus executive director, Ma'am Liza L. Quimson by giving her warm
opening remarks. In her speech, she looks back to her humble journey starting from one
of the "errand girl" of PSU up until being the Chief Executive Director of PSU. Ma'am
Quimson was really thankful for the PSUnians' warm welcome for her and was
competitive or proud to say that “San Carlos Campus is really Maayos". Moreover, she
also states some advice about love, which is the main revolving topic for the event
being held. After those welcoming remarks, one of the PSU SC professors sings a song
for everyone, during that time student council officials ask other professors to dance
along with the song, as the event goes on PSUnians showcase their talents at singing
and dancing for an intermission number.

On the afternoon of the same day, the students were gathered at the Covered
Court to watch and cheer their bets on the Spoken Word Poetry Contest. Before the
start of the contest and while waiting for some students who watched the Cinelikha at
the AVR to come the student council takes some time to catch the attention of the
students by randomly picking and reading a sticky note attached to the board called
“Sana Wall,” wherein each note has a written message of a certain student that has
their confession, their insights about love, their feelings, their hugots, and the likes. After
a while of waiting and reading, the competition finally starts since the participants from
different departments have already arrived. There are ten contestants, to be exact, that
delivered their pieces with so many emotions. Each of them has different topics and
approaches to deliver their entry. Some of the topics of the contestants include love
from God, from family, and of course romantic love. Most of the topic was all about
rejection, pain and broken heartedness. They all wowed the students and touched their
hearts because of the emotional and relatable pieces they performed. They’re all good.
However, there are only three contestants declared as winners. First, second and third
places in the competition went from the BachElem Organization, JAHRE Organization,
and CFOA Organization, respectively.

On the second day of the event, all the students of the Pangasinan State
University gathered together at the covered court to join and play the bingo games that
were held and handled by the Supreme Student Council of PSU San Carlos. This bingo
event lasted for almost 3 hours, providing entertainment to all of the participants.
Different winners had been declared, and they received prizes such as clip fans,
tumblers, school supplies, and other essential items that they could use.

Afternoon came, and everybody was ecstatic to witness the most anticipated part
of this second-day event: the live band. Different students from different departments
showcase their talents in singing and playing different kinds of instruments to perform a
breathtaking and amazing performance. Together with the theme of the event,
“Heartbeat and Heartache", most of the songs played by the bands were connected with
it. Seeing the students' facial expressions while watching them, you can see and
perceive that they all relate to the songs that were played. All of the performers gave
their best to keep every PSUnian entertained; they all gave us a concert-like experience
through their vocals and astonishing skills when it comes to instruments, especially
electric guitars. After every band's performance, the Supreme Student Council takes
some time to announce and award certificates of recognition to the winners of the
various contests, such as Cine Likha, Spoken Poetry, and the Essay Writing
Competition. Of course, as a part of the celebration of the month of love at the
University, the MC didn't forget the "status check," wherein all of the students at PSU
San Carlos have to wear a shirt based on their "status." Blue shirt for those people who
were treated like an option, Orange for those "pinakilig, White shirt for those students
who were single and ready to mingle, Yellow for moving on, Red shirt for people who
were in a relationship, Black for those "sinaktan at iniwan", Violet for looking for
someone, Green shirt for "True love waits," Pink shirt for those "pinili or surething na,"
Skyblue for "strict ang parents," Stripes for NGSB/NBSB and Org. Shirt for those "Org
shirt lang, sapat na!"
To conclude the said event, it all ended with the performing bands and they all
did a great job performing two sets with four songs on each of it. The concert-like
experience is memorable and totally unforgettable to us and for everyone. This 2-day
event was a great experience for PSUNIANs from the San Carlos City Campus. We, the
BEED 1-B, thoroughly enjoyed this event and gratefully acknowledged those who
planned and arranged it. They all did an excellent job at making it happen. This event
gave us the opportunity to witness the hidden talents of the students and to socialize
and seize the moment. It is indeed true that the students from the PSU San Carlos
Campus were all great and talented.
