Procedure.

Solid-Works Steps.
Certainly! Here's an updated procedure that utilizes the "Revolved Boss/Base" feature to create the
testing specimen with the specifications you mentioned:

1. Open SolidWorks and create a new part file.

2. Select the "Sketch" option from the toolbar and choose the plane on which you want to create the
sketch. For example, you can choose the Front plane.
3. Use the Line tool to draw a vertical line in the sketch. Click on a starting point, drag the cursor
upward, and click again to define the overall length. Enter a value of 50mm for the length.
4. Use the Line tool to draw two horizontal lines at each end of the vertical line. Click on the endpoint of
the vertical line, drag the cursor to the right, and click again to define the shoulder length. Enter a value
of 10mm for the shoulder length. Repeat the process on the left side of the vertical line.
5. Use the Circle tool to draw a circle at each end of the shoulder lines. Click on the endpoint of each
shoulder line and enter a value of 5mm for the radius (diameter of 10mm).
6. Use the Line tool to draw a horizontal line connecting the centers of the circles. This will define the
gauge length. Enter a value of 30mm for the length.
7. Use the Circle tool to draw a circle at the midpoint of the gauge length line. Click on the midpoint and
enter a value of 3mm for the radius (diameter of 6mm).
8. Exit the sketch by clicking on the "Exit Sketch" button.
9. Select the "Revolved Boss/Base" option from the toolbar. Choose the sketch you created in step 3 as
the profile to revolve.
10. In the Revolve dialog box, select the axis of revolution. You can choose the vertical line as the axis.
11. Click "OK" to complete the revolve operation. This will create a 3D solid object with specified
dimensions and features.
12. You can now save the part file or proceed to further operations such as creating drawings, adding
features, or performing simulations.
By using the "Revolved Boss/Base" feature, this updated procedure allows you to create the testing
specimen with the gauge length of 30mm, overall length of 50mm, shoulder lengths of 10mm, shoulder
diameters of 10mm, and a gauge diameter of 6mm in a single step. Feel free to modify the steps or
dimensions as per your specific requirements.
Ansys Steps.
1. Import Geometry:
 Start Ansys and open the software's modelling environment.
 Import or create the geometry of the component or structure you want to analyse.
Ensure the geometry is properly defined and clean.
2. Define Material Properties:
 Assign the appropriate material properties to each component.
 For structural steel, specify the Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and yield strength.
 For aluminium alloy and copper alloy, specify their respective material properties.
3. Define Mesh Controls:
 Select the geometry components and define mesh controls to refine the mesh in specific
regions.
 For coarse mesh, use larger element sizes or global element size controls.
 For medium mesh, use moderate element sizes or a combination of global and local
element size controls.
 For fine mesh, use smaller element sizes or local element size controls in critical regions
or areas of interest.
4. Generate Coarse Mesh:
 Use the meshing tools in Ansys to generate a coarse mesh.
 Set the global element size to a larger value to create a relatively coarse mesh for the
entire model.
5. Inspect and Refine Coarse Mesh:
 Inspect the coarse mesh to identify areas where additional mesh refinement is required.
 Apply local element size controls to refine the mesh in those critical regions or areas of
interest.
 Adjust the element sizes and mesh parameters as needed to achieve the desired mesh
quality.
6. Generate Medium Mesh:
 Re-mesh the model using the refined mesh controls to generate a medium mesh.
 Ensure that the mesh size is smaller and more refined compared to the coarse mesh.
7. Inspect and Refine Medium Mesh:
 Inspect the medium mesh to verify its quality and identify any further areas that require
refinement.
 Apply additional local element size controls or adjust mesh parameters as necessary.
8. Generate Fine Mesh:
 Re-mesh the model using the refined mesh controls to generate a fine mesh.
 The fine mesh should have a higher density of elements, capturing more details and
providing accurate results.
9. Mesh Quality Check:
 Perform a mesh quality check to ensure that the generated mesh meets the desired
criteria.
 Inspect for elements with poor aspect ratios, skewed shapes, or other mesh-related
issues.
 Make necessary adjustments to improve the mesh quality if any issues are detected.
10. Save and Export Mesh:
 Once you are satisfied with the mesh quality, save the mesh in the desired format (e.g.,
Ansys mesh file format or other compatible formats) for further analysis.
11. Plot the stress strain curve.
 From the simulation generated, plot the stress strain curve for each material with the
different meshes.
