The Role of Social Media to Grade 11 Students in MFMC

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Our daily lives now heavily involve social media, especially for the younger generation.
Researchers are interested in the growing usage of social media by Grade 11 students. Although
social media offers numerous advantages, it also presents several challenges for students.

The purpose of this study is to examine how social media affects students in Grade 11. This
study will investigate how social media affects students in terms of their academic achievement,
social conduct, mental health, and overall well-being. It will make use of a qualitative data
collection technique. Surveys, focus groups, and interviews with Grade 11 students will be used
to gather data.

This will also conduct a literature evaluation to provide a theoretical framework for the research.
It will investigate the impact of social media on the spread of misinformation as well as the
difficulties connected with controlling information online.

1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Social media is everywhere in modern life, and their impact on young people is an area of
growing concern. We have seen a sharp increase in the use of social media among Grade 11
students in MFMC. Social media can have both positive and negative effects, especially for
young people who are still working on their emotional and social skills. Potential benefits
include instant connectedness, knowledge sharing, and community engagement. Even though
social media use is on the rise among Grade 11 students in MFMC, there are negative effects on
students' academic success, mental health, interpersonal connections, and general well-being. So,
the purpose of this study is to address the following research questions:

1. How does social media impact the academic performance of Grade 11 students in MFMC?
2. What are the behavioral changes Grade 11 students in MFMC caused by social media?
3. What are the benefits and disadvantages of social media for MFMC Grade 11 students in
unlocking awareness?

This study intends to provide a greater understanding of the role of social media in the lives of
Grade 11 students in MFMC and to identify methods for encouraging young people to utilize
social media in a healthy way by providing answers to these questions.

1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Understanding the role of social media for Grade 11 students is vital since they are at a
developmental stage where they are still building on how they interact with people. With the
increased usage of social media, it is important to understand how it influences their lives.
Researchers can identify positive as well as negative impacts of social media on Grade 11
students and find solutions to avoid potential risks on social media. The impact of social media
on Grade 11 students is important for their parents as well. As social media use grows more
widespread, it is essential for parents to understand how it affects students so that they can more
effectively support them.

1.3 SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The study's scope is limited to Grade 11 students understanding of the role of social media.
Particularly, the goal is to find out how social media affects the academic achievement,
socializing, and overall behavior of Grade 11 students. Grade 11 students from MFMC will
participate in the study, and data will be gathered through a survey via Google Forms.

The study will only focus on students in Grade 11 and will not be applicable to students in other
grades. Secondly, the study will only be conducted at MFMC, so it will not be applicable to other
schools. Thirdly, for surveys, the study will use Google Forms. Finally, the study will look at the
positive and negative effects of social media on academic performance, socializing, and behavior
among Grade 11 students.
