ABSTRACT

This study aimed to develop a motorcycle lighting system

mockup as an instructional material. It was developed for

instruction and demonstration to give the automotive students a

tangible model for better learning experiences to build knowledge

and skills in motorcycle wiring and motorcycle accessories. It

was designed to improve the interest and understanding of the

learners.

With the help of the research adviser; an automotive

instructor, the instructional material was designed and

constructed. It was planned on the last week of October 2022 and

the fabrication was finished on the last week of November 2022.

The researchers randomly selected twenty (20) automotive students

and ten (10) automotive instructors in Sorsogon State University

on academic year 2022 - 2023.

For the reliability of the data collected, automotive

students and automotive instructors were selected as the

respondents of the study. The study utilized descriptive design

and developmental design. The research question, what are the

materials needed in the preparation of motorcycle lighting

system instructional mockup was answered with the following

materials used in the fabrication of the product: lights,

switches, brakes, battery, dashboard, handle bar, wires and

VI

terminal, bolts, screws, nuts, board, steel, wheels, main

switch, relay, flasher relay, and fuse.

The design and layout of the product was successfully

constructed and answered the research question what is the design

of motorcycle lighting system mockup. A survey was conducted as

an evaluation of the product using survey questionnaire as a

research instrument.

A survey questionnaires were distributed to the respondents

to evaluate and determine the strength of agreement to the

motorcycle lighting system instructional mockup as to

acceptability, functionality, mobility, durability, and safety.

The data collected from the respondents were treated though tally

and average weighted mean and interpreted using Likert Scale to

determine the level of agreement in terms of acceptability,

functionality, mobility, durability, and safety of motorcycle

lighting system instructional mockup.

The data were presented through average weighted mean and

descriptive rating strongly agree (5), agree (4), fairly agree

(3) disagree (2), and strongly disagree (1). The evaluation of

the product resulted to a strong agreement in terms of

functionality with an average rating (4.73) and durability (4.53)

and an agree in terms of acceptability (4.5), mobility (4.3), and

VII

safety (4.23) which means the respondents agreed and strongly

agreed in the mentioned terms.

The findings turned out to be favorable, thus, the motorcycle

lighting system mockup can be proposed as an instructional

material. As per result of the study, the researchers recommend a

similar study with a different design and layout.

The researchers encountered financial shortage that resulted

to a replacement of some materials needed. Due to a high cost and

unavailability of fiberglass, a wood was utilized instead of a

fiberglass for the board. It is recommended to use fiberglass for

better durability and aesthetic value of the product.
