Sample long question 1:

Write the characteristics of village life as presented in Heidi. Focus on,

1: people’s relationship to each other

2: natural landscape

3: people’s houses, lifestyles, diet.

Sample answer:

The village life presented in Heidi is full of simplicity. People eat a very simple diet. For example, Peter
the goatheard has only bread and milk every day. People’s houses are very simple too. For example,
grandfather lives in a small hut with very little furniture. Unlike the city, in the village of Dorfili, people’s
house are close together, so everyone knows everyone else by name. We can see that everyone was
calling out to Detie “Where are you taking the child?” from their doorsteps as they passed through the
village. This means that everyone knew about Detie and Heidi. In the village, there are no secret. All
kinds of tales spread through rumor and gossip. The natural landscape of the mountains is very
beautiful…
You can make the above answer better and longer. Add any information you like. Quote from the book.
Make it interesting.

Sample long question number 2:

Discuss Heidi’s character.

Heidi is about five years old at the beginning of the novel. She is a very intelligent child, and can take
care of herself well. She is good at exploring her surroundings. She is very practical, which is shown by
her act of pulling off her heavy dresses so she could run like Peter and the goats. Heidi is a curious child
and wants to know everything that interests her. For example, she asks Peter so many questions
about…….

Note: Don’t just copy thee answers. They are just to give you a start. Improve these answers, or write
your own. Give more examples from the book. THINK.
