Topic

Taking off Quantities for the Proposed House of Mr. Ranasinghe in Homagama

Objectives
▪ To strengthen the knowledge and skills of taking off and measurement of
Substructure, Walls, Roof, Doors and Windows.

▪ To improve knowledge and skills of basic principles of taking off and writing item
descriptions.

▪ To improve the ability to use and interpret NRM 2 for building works.

Tasks

Take off quantities of the following items for the construction of Proposed House of Mr.
Ranasinghe in Homagama as shown on Drawing numbers BE1601/CW/01, BE1601/CW/02
and BE1601/CW/03 and attached specifications.

▪ Substructure
▪ Walls in Ground Floor including adjustments for openings
▪ Roof and Doors & Windows in Ground Floor.

All taking off shall be strictly in accordance with the New Rules of Measurement (NRM2).
Where any information is missing, specification is inadequate or exact nature of the
construction is unclear, you are required to make sensible assumptions. All assumptions
made shall be entered on a Query Sheet.

Methodology
▪ Students shall work in-groups of three (3) to accomplish the given tasks

▪ The taken off quantities shall be neatly handwritten.

▪ Standard format should be followed for the query sheets.

▪ Students can take photographs or scan the taking off document and upload it to Moodle
in PDF format

▪ The students shall be assessed individually during a viva.


▪ The viva will be based on all the areas covered through CW tasks. Maximum duration for
the individual viva will be 10 minutes.

▪ Submission dates of each section and individual viva are as follows:

Submission 01: Substructure - 8th December 2020

Submission 02: Walls in Ground Floor including - 19th December 2020
