Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

The use of the image detection system is crucial in helping the police with their

investigation. In the current cloud-based computing system, computational complexity is

steadily increasing. In the latest historical period, the image detection function will

undoubtedly be more significant in maintaining economic cohesion and community

safety (Yin, 2022).

The industrial revolution has recently used computer vision in their work. Deep

learning is widely used in the robotics, surveillance, medical, and automation industries.

Due to its findings, which are mostly obtained in applications involving language

processing, image detection, and image classification, deep learning has emerged as the

most talked-about technology. Also, Zhili Zhou et al. (2016) stated that goal of image

detection would be to quickly and accurately find variations of such a provided test image

in a huge collection of images. Image detection was already effectively used in a variety

of systems, including backup reduction, highly exposed data encryption, and photo

licensing agreements.

When it comes to the Philippines' national economic and ecological stability,

bamboo has proven to be a crucial resource. Paren (2010), states that bamboo originally

stood out from other grasses because it has special classification and a variety of usage.

Bamboos were used for many years as a low-cost source for building supplies, household

equipment, handicrafts, fish pens, fruit props, and countless additional goods. Bamboo is

used for a variety of practical and conventional purposes throughout the Philippines. It

has become fundamental to Philippine culture since it has reflected in a wide variety of

rituals, customs, and ideologies. There are numerous bamboo-related mythologies

through Philippine culture. For instance, based on a Visayan folklore, the very first

Filipino male ("lalaki") as well as female ("babae") originated out of a portion of

bamboo.

Handicrafts are still popular here in the Philippines even though the technology is

continuing to develop, expand, and transform our world. According to Arch (2019),

Philippines has been the world's second-largest manufacturer of handicrafts, primarily

containers made from local resources. Despite the fact that many handicrafts are mostly

purchased here on marketplace, this sector still makes a prestigious impact towards the

nation's foreign exchange revenues (US$71.9M in 2000). Handicrafts could be

manufactured for both rural and urban places and thus are created using cultural and

primitive methods. The normal surroundings have an impact on handicrafts. Residents

use their creativity to transform basic resources into products known as urbanized

handicrafts as an aspect of such a rural sector (Afrakhteh, 2014).

Computer networks are utilized by most businesses, groups, and individuals to

store and distribute data. Most systems involving computers rely heavily on image

detection. Numerous real-world systems of image processing can be found with in

banking industry, teaching profession, railroads, surveillance cameras, and other fields

(Herunde et al. 2020).

According to Yuan et al. (2020), stated that given its use in the medical sector to

develop strategies that enhance people's general health and thereby their medical care, it

was mentioned that image detection plays an important part in the detection of visual

objects. According to Gaikwad and Madane (2019) the template matching Forge

Colorized Image Detection process to identify forged colorized images. The deductions

of such standardized hue link histograms are used to create the hue functionality.

Researchers made an application tutorial for bamboo handicrafts. The first thing

that came out in the researchers’ mind is to help the entrepreneurs or the business people

who wants to start a business like creating a handicraft made in bamboo. The group

studied on how they can easily build or create a handicraft. Using the knowledge as IT

student, the group created a Mobile App tutorial for bamboo. The main problem with this

bamboo handicraft tutorial is the people who are creating handicrafts, they cannot find a

tutorial on how to do it. The researcher aims to propose a system to the business people

and would be systematically and securely done. The proposed Mobile Application

tutorial for bamboo handicrafts simply improves the consistency of the consultation

process; of the people who wants to build a business.

Project Context
The researchers recognized the need of innovation in advertising especially in the

field of bamboo making industry. The study created an application that provides step-by-

step tutorial on making bamboo handicrafts, giving new idea and techniques about

bamboo handicrafts, to promote or advertise bamboo handicrafts and to keep the

traditional way in making bamboo handicrafts to our generation to the next generation.

The handicraftsmen did not have the way to promote or advertise their bamboo

handicrafts. In this study, the researchers used image detection system. The application

used a specific image target to provide the video tutorial, the features of image detection

are being discussed. Furthermore, the locale of Bam n’ Boo was founded by the

researchers in 2022 located in 089 Purok 1 Don carlos st. Pio, Porac, Pampanga. The

researcher focused on the bamboo handicrafts which could be used to view the video

tutorial using Image Detection.

Purpose and Description

The study was conducted to develop a bamboo handicraft tutorial application

using Image Detection that would help the people who wants to make bamboo

handicrafts. It allows the users to get an idea on how to make a bamboo handicraft. In

addition, the application was a very useful tool for the person who wants to start a

business related to handicrafts. Image Detection helps the user to easily watch the video

tutorial, get information in step-by-step tutorial, and the techniques in making a bamboo

handicraft. It is an application that could promotes the bamboo handicraft products of the

handicraftsmen of barangay Sapang Uwap Porac, Pampanga. The researchers choose the

barangay Sapang Uwak Porac, Pampanga as the local for the reason that it is one of the

barangays that had lot of handicraftsmen. The system ensures that the Bam n’ Boo can

show a bamboo handicrafts video tutorial for all handicraftsman. The Bam n’ Boo system

helps the locale in strengthening and grow more their tradition.

According to philatlas.com (2020). Sapang Uwak, formerly Aetas, throughout the

municipal council of Porac and throughout the region of Pampanga, there is a town called

Sapang Uwak, previously known as Aetas. 1,398 people were living there as of the

population List. This amounted to 0.99% of Porac's resident number. On the mainland of

Luzon, Sapang Uwak is located at roughly 120.4919 and 15.1097. It is estimated that the

altitude at this exact location is 638.8 feet or 194.7 meters, above the average sea level.

Chapter II

METHODOLOGY

The research methods, tools, and instruments used by the researcher are presented

in this chapter and applied to the research.

Research Design

The researchers developed an application Bam n’ Boo: Mobile Application

Tutorial for Bamboo Handicraft using an Image Detection System that was based on data

acquired through the interview, survey questionnaires, online research, and gaining real-

world knowledge to assist with the system's development. In order to test and assess the

system, researchers randomly picked participants.

According to Researchconnection.org(n.d.) descriptive research is a method of

study used to outline a population's qualities. It gathers information about a specific

group or population that is utilized to answer a variety of when, how, and what questions.

Research Instrument

Stated by Sugiyono (2012), research tool is a method that is used to quantify

social or natural circumstances. The information for this study is being gathered using a

questionnaire. Researchers used a variety of methods in the design and system

development requireto handleng the challenge study. Interviews and survey

questionnaires will be used by the researchers into collecting the data required for the

development of the suggested system's documentation. The survey questionnaire, in

which we the researchers will provide questionnaire to the respondents to well understand

the objectives and problem of the study.

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

11
Mobile Application Tutorial for Bamboo Handicrafts Using Image Detection System

Data Gathering

The system can be developed using a survey questionnaire and online research

and the researcher's actual experience with application development.

Interview

Interviews were carried out to determine the method and assess the locale

for the system's adoption. The researchers received assistance to find the

handicraftsmen of barangay Sapang Uwak Porac, Pampanga to investigate and

find more information. Cresswell, (2012) stated that a standard "interview" is a

face-to-face discussion among a researcher and a respondent in which the

respondent provides data to the questioner.

Survey Questionnaire

The word "survey questionnaire" is utilized to refer to the list of questions

you are posing to a subject. Survey involves gathering, evaluating, and presenting

information from a large number of people. It seeks to ascertain insights regarding

a population. Survey gathers information in far more depth than a questionnaire

and frequently uses multiple data collection methods. By using ISO 25010

Software Quality Evaluation standards as a guide, researchers created a

questionnaire. Software product and software consistency in use models,

comprising features and comments section, are presented by the ISO 25010

standard for software quality, along with useful suggestions on how to apply the

design method. The researchers distributed twenty (20) questionnaires to the

weekly average inquiries and five (5) IT Experts as alpha tester which evaluate

the system.

Online Research

According to Questionpro.com that online research is a type of study

involves gathering information from the internet. The traditional typewriter

research methods have been replaced by online research since the invention of the

internet.

Researcher employed web research to contribute to the creation of the

application by finding relevant papers and literature that served as the basis for

the effectiveness of the system. Researcher's system design had been used as a

template for the creation of the system model based on the data acquired.

Respondent of the Study

Researchers determined the respondent of the study through Total sampling

techniques. Total population sampling is a form of purposive sampling approach that

entails checking at the overall population with a specific set of attributes. Twenty-five

(25) respondents were composing of twenty (20) handicraftsmen from barangay Sapang

Uwak Porac, Pampanga and five (5) IT experts as alpha tester from around Porac,

Pampanga. The respondents were carefully chosen because of their expertise and

involvement in the development and evaluation of the capstone project.

Evaluation Instrument and Criteria

A variety of methods can be used to conduct an evaluation, such as conducting in-

person interviews or distributing questionnaires to fill out. A questionnaire was used in

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

13

the study, and the researcher personally provided the respondents the evaluation tool,

which was used in a descriptive study methodology.

Since it can be used by both students and employees who have an Android device, the

study does not need to specify an age range. To compute and interpret the results of the

testing phase, the researcher used the Likert scale.

The assessment for the Likert 5 Scale questionnaire seemed to have the following

average score:

Mean Range Verbal Interpretation

3.26 – 4.00 Outstanding

2.51 – 3.25 Very Satisfactory

1.76 – 2.50 Satisfactory

1.00 – 1.75 Unsatisfactory

System Development Methodology/Procedure

The study used rapid prototyping method in System Development Life Cycle

(SDLC). It is extremely beneficial to the researchers in terms of establishing objectives,

DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE UNIVERSITY

15
Mobile Application Tutorial for Bamboo Handicrafts Using Image Detection System

assessing system performance, and improving the quality of the final product. Every

action is made by the project executive to thoroughly understand the requirements of the

project sponsor. Written components are typically provided in a written document and

used to describe each stage of the project involving costs, concepts, risks, functionalities,

success indicators, and completion time.

The SDLC models specify how the process is organized, as well as the order in

which potential risks and problems are addressed. We'll look at a few of the models,

compare and contrast them, and list some of the most beneficial and pleasant to work

with.

The researchers used a rapid prototyping methodology to make sure each phase

was finished before moving on to the next. It enables the control and division of tasks.

The researchers created a detailed timeline to ensure that each phase was completed on

time and to meet the deadline. All phase's proceedings are monitored in this way.

Rapid Prototyping Development Methodology

The prototyping model is a systems approach where a prototype is created,

examined, and then modified as needed to produce a result that can serve as the

basis for the creation of the entire system or product. This model performs well in

situations because not all project needs are fully known beforehand. The

interaction between the users and the developers is a continuous, trial-and-error

process Techtarget.com, (2019).
