Paragraph 2

However, according to a study conducted by (Kidron & Lindsey, 2014) stated that programs that extend
school day provide students additional knowledge in various subjects which therefore improve students
academic performance. Programs to extend learning time showed a minor but statistically significant
positive impact on grades K–12 overall on the academic motivation of students (measured as
attendance, completion of assignments, and teachers' evaluations), students' self-reports of their drive
to learn, and measures of students' work effort in class). The study found mixed effects of increased
learning time programs on student academic and nonacademic outcomes. Findings suggest that the
impacts of these programs depend on the settings, implementation features, and types of students
targeted. Even though student academic performance may marginally improve, it will still depend on the
environment, and student health is much more important. Therefore, it is much preferable to shorten
school days.

Paragraph 3

Students are too drained to do other activities after school. According to (Drowd, 2020) Overwork at
school can have a significant negative impact on one's mental and emotional health, which also affects
academic performance. Relationships with classmates, teachers, friends, and family can suffer due to
moodiness. Ruminating on the workload makes people more anxious and makes them less satisfied with
their academic work in general. Concerns about keeping up might result in low self-esteem and feelings
of inadequacy, particularly if the teacher mentions pushing up the pace. Furthermore, School stress
leads to burnout, which the World Health Organization describes as a form of chronic work stress that
depletes energy and diminishes efficacy. They mentally distance themselves from classmates and
become more pessimistic about their situation. Long hours and cynicism diminish the enjoyment of
studying and add to tiredness. (Appelbaum, 2020)

Conclusion

Too long study hours in school take a heavy toll on students. Negative effects can include debilitating
stress, mood disorders, and illness. Having little control over an overwhelming workload can lead to
burnout. Schools can lose talented students, and students may find themselves continually tired
mentally and physically. Based on the studies we would recommend schools to lessen school hours, to
let the students have more rest to be able to study or work more efficiently.
