Discussion:
INTERSECTION OF SETS
The intersection of sets A and B, written A ∩ B, is the set containing the
elements that are in both A and B.
Example: A = { 1,3,5,7,9}
B = { 2,3,5,7,11}
UNION OF SETS
The union of sets A and B, written A ∪ B, is the set of all the elements that
are in A, or in B, or in both A and B.
Example: A = { 1,3,5,7,}
B = { 1,2,3,4,}
Combining the elements.
NO repetition
A ∪ B = {1,2,3,4,5,7} Final Answer
COMPLEMENT OF A SET
The complement of a set A, written A’, is the set of elements in the
universal set that are not in A.
Example: ∪ = {1,2,3,4,5}
A = { 2,4} B = {1,2,3,4,5} C= { }
A’ = {1,3,5} B’ = { } C’ = {1,2,3,4,5}
Activity:
Answer the following question: (2pts each)
1. A = { 1, 5, 7, 13 }
2. B = { 1, 3, 7, 11}
