5.

The protagonist of the story, Jojo, changed throughout the story by his realization: “I should
stand up of myself and voice out my ideas and thoughts”. Because of this, Jojo was able to
comprehend the real essence of studying and not just by obeying what the teacher is always
saying. The protocol established to Jojo by his teacher is that he should listen and apprehend
what the teacher has to say or teach. Jojo learned that he should also be able to speak up to
himself and not become stoic like a robot.

6. The short story "Utos ng Hari" is important because it deals with the reality of being a
student. Through this work, readers will know the attitude of a student and the strategies of
teachers in teaching. This is a type of realism work because it presents the realism of an
institutional system.

7. Discrimination is also discussed in the work because Minyong is a cultural minority and he
cannot keep up with the standard of their school because they only live in the mountains and he
was only taken there to study. The teachers dropped Minyong because they said he was stupid
and when Minyong was sent to school, it was said that stupid people would become
fashionable again in school to be the cause of having a bad image of it in society and the author
also mentioned that Minyong was being told by teachers that he was crazy. The author also
wants to be aware of the teachers who continue to apply "favoritism" and to be aware of other
students who are able to raise their grades because of the association with the teachers.

8. Jojo compares his condition to his teacher's shoelace, which only shows that everything he
does is forced. can follow the preferences of his teacher. His teacher will take him wherever he
lands so that means his teacher's ideas and wishes will be followed. He is imprisoned in a
system where only the teacher has control over his learning process and he has no choice but to
follow it and drown himself forever even if he doesn't like what happened and the
consequences.

9. It relates to the whole story as it projects realistic approach of what is really happening inside
classrooms. Favoritism and discrimination are both rampant inside classroom and it is
addressed in the story in a way that lets you be aware of it. It projected the issues and concerns
of students with regards to the teaching style of teachers –which does not apply to the present
education curriculum as student-centered learning is highly encouraged. I have also been a
victim of these issues and it’s really hard to fight back especially when they suppress your voice
–it always made me think that I can’t do anything about it. I came to realize that there is
something that we can do to amend these situations.

10. In reading the whole book, I discovered that there are teachers who can be considered as
bad examples to students like the teachers who talk to the faculty, they talk about their students
and say inappropriate words and they are even able to judge Minyong who is a cultural
minority and Jojo. It was also discovered that a smart person like Jojo, who has a good attitude,
wins even though he is smart, his grades are still low because the teachers don't like his attitude
in class, while Osias was passed because he has a good attitude and is considerate and polite.
student I also discovered that no matter how happy the people around you are if you have a
grudge harbored you will never feel happy about yourself.
