The Physical and Personal Aspects

of Classroom Management

This Learning Episode tackles classroom management and discipline. It

also focuses on the personal and physical aspects of classroom management
which are central to teaching and therefore must be implemented consistently.

At the end of this episode, you must be able to identify the aspects of
classroom management and determine the classroom management strategies
employed by teachers in their classes.

1
Two Aspects of Effective Classroom Management

1. Personal Classroom Management consists of managing yourself to ensure

order and discipline in your class. It includes:
 Voice
 Personal grooming
 Attendance
 Punctuality
 Personal graciousness
Note: Managing yourself as a teacher contributes to the order and well-being of your
class.

2
2. Physical Classroom Management consists of managing the learning
environment. Attending to these physical elements of the learning
environment ensures safety, security, and order in class. It includes:
 Ventilation
 Lighting
 Acoustics
 Seating arrangement
 Structure/design of the classroom
 Physical space/learning stations

Now, are you ready for your observation activity? I bet you are, so let’s begin.

Your Activity 7.1

Management

Resource Teacher: Mrs. Lourdesita L. Macasilhig Signature: ___________

Grade/Year Level: Grade 10 Cookery Date: Nov. 07, 2022

by the entire class?
1.3. Was the teacher present in class?

Analyze the different elements of personal/physical classroom

management and answer the following questions.

1. How does the voice of the teacher affect classroom instruction?

Answer: When you are a teacher, voice quality is one of the most
important factors. Because if it is used effectively, the voice can get the
learners’ attention and encourage engagement with the teacher and the
subject matter. To ensure that the learner is paying attention and listening
carefully during class discussion, the teacher’s voice should be loud and
clear enough to be audible throughout the entire classroom when giving
instruction or discussion.

2. How does the punctuality of the teacher affect classroom discipline?

Answer: The teachers’ punctuality and behavior reflect on the students
because if the students can see that their teacher is on time, they will
make every effort to emulate such behavior. Because we believe that the
teachers are the role model of the students.

3. Why do we need to check on the physical aspects of classroom

management?
Answer: To ensure that the discussion and the learning activities flows
easily for both teacher and learner, we need to check the physical aspect
of classroom management. The safety and order of the class would be
guaranteed if the best version of these actual classroom components
were used.

4
Reflect on the aspects of personal and classroom management.

1. “No amount of good instruction will come out without effective

classroom management”. Explain what this statement to you as a
future teacher.
Answer:
If a teacher in a particular classroom lacks the necessary
management skills, then the teacher will also be unable to create
and deliver effective instruction, which can sometime result to
students’ failure to learn.

2. What are your plans in ensuring effective classroom management?

Answer:
In order for me to ensure effective classroom management I
must have all the traits of a competent teacher and have mastered all
the personal classroom management components, such as punctuality,
personal hygiene and etc.
