HOUSEKEEPING
Housekeeping refers to the process of ensuring that the workplace is kept clean and
tidy. Housekeeping improve efficiency and productivity, it maintain safety and
cleanliness and also maintain good control over the process. Industrial housekeeping
includes the provision of adequate workspace, adequate storage arrangements and
cleanliness.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR GOOD HOUSEKEEPING


o Walkways, aisles, stairways, fire escapes and all other passageways shall be kept clear
of all obstructions.

o Tools and materials should not be placed where they may cause tripping or stumbling
hazards or where they may fall and strike anyone below.

o Puddles of oil and water create a slipping hazard and should be cleaned up promptly.

o Nails in boards, such as those removed from scaffolds, forms and packing boxes,
constitute a hazard and should be removed. The boards should be carefully stacked
or stored.
o Dirty and oily waste rags should be deposited in approved containers and disposed
off as soon as practicable to avoid fire hazard.

o Broken light bulbs, glass metal and scrap and other sharp objects should be dumped
in places or containers provided specially for them.

o Discarded fluorescent and other gas filled tubes shall be disposed off safely.

o Always provide good housekeeping at the workplace after completion of the job.
