• Tanzania is a country in East Africa bordering the


Indian Ocean Tanzania was formed as a sovereign
state in 1964 through the union of the theretofore
separate states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Mainland
Tanganyika covers more than 99 percent of the
combined territories’ total area. Mafia Island is
administered from the mainland, while Zanzibar and
Pemba islands have a separate government
administration. Dodoma, since 1974 the designated
official capital of Tanzania, is centrally located on the
mainland. Dar es Salaam is the largest city and port in

 The FMCG industry is the fourth
largest sector in the Indian economy.

 In the last 10 years, the revenue in


FMCG industry in India has been
growing at the rate of 21.4%.

 There was a drastic change in


revenues in FMCG sector growing
from US$ 31.6 billion to US$ 52.8 from
2011 to 2017-2018 respectively.

 As of 2020, the production of dairy
products in Zanzibar increased slightly
to roughly eight million litters, up from
approximately 7.9 million litres’ in the
previous year.

 As of 2019, the production of soft drinks


in Tanzania was measured at 725.1
million litters

 The volume increased from 645.8


million litters in the previous year.

CURENT SENARIO OF EXPORTS IN TANZANIA

○ The top imports of Tanzania are Refined Copper


($1.55B), Refined Petroleum ($730M), Packaged
Medicaments ($368M), Palm Oil ($302M), and Wheat
($219M), importing mostly from China ($4.17B),
Democratic Republic of the Congo ($1.67B), India
($1.41B), United Arab Emirates ($788M), and South
Africa ($336M).

Bilateral trade (2020-21):

○ ▪ Total trade: US$ 1,846.60 million


○ ▪ Exports: US$ 1,614.69 million
○ ▪ Imports: US$ 231.91 million
○ Exports from India to Tanzania grew at a
CAGR of 41.1% between 2006 and 2012, while
imports grew at a CAGR of 18.5% during the
same period.
