Relative Clauses
Relative clauses specify or give information about words of the main clause.They are
introduced by the relative pronouns who, which, that, whose or the relative adverbs
where, when, why.

Relative Pronouns
Who: refers to people.
E.g. That’s the woman who was looking for you.

Which: refers to animals, things and abstract nouns.


E.g. My friend has a cat which keeps jumping into my garden.

That: refers to people, animals, things and abstract nouns. It can be used instead of who or which.
E.g. There’s the girl that I invited to my party.

Whose: indicates possession and replaces possessive adjectives and the possessive case.
It is used mainly for people and animals.
E.g. That’s the writer whose books always cause a lot of discussion.

Relative Adverbs
Where: refers to places.
E.g. That’s the restaurant where we used to have lunch.

When: refers to time.


E.g. That was the summer when we met each other.

Why: refers to the cause of an action.


E.g. Is that the reason why he left?

Conditional Type 0
Conditional clauses consist of two parts: the if clause (hypothesis)
and the main clause (result). When the if clause comes before
the main clause, the two clauses are separated with a comma.

Use conditional type 0
We use conditional type 0 to say something which is always true (law of
nature), or to talk about something that always happens as a result of
something else. We can use when instead of if.
