Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: SECTION 1. Title 4 Virgin Islands Code is amended in the following instances: 1. In chapter 2, Subchapter IIB, 32, subsection (a), after Superior Court insert and the Magistrate Division of the Superior Court; and 2. In chapter 8, 125, strike the phrases the Superior Court or to the and if appealable to the Supreme Court as provided by law. BILL SUMMARY This bill seeks to amend Title 4 V.I.C. as it relates to appeals from the Magistrate Division of the Superior Court by requiring all appeals go directly to the Supreme Court instead of the Superior Court in an effort alleviate the strain on the Superior Court.

Section 1, number 1, amends 32(a) by including the Magistrate Division under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. Section 1, number 2, amends 125 [Appeals from the Magistrate Division] by mandating that appeals from the Magistrate Division go directly to the Supreme Court.
