CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LAS FRASES VERBALES

Toda frase verbal se puede categorizar como transitiva, intransitiva, separable o inseparable.

TRANSITIVAS O INTRANSITIVAS

Si una frase verbal es transitiva, tiene un objeto directo. Objetos directos responden la pregunta
“¿qué?” o “¿quién?”.

• Pick up your shoes Recoge tus zapatos •

We walked across the bridge. Cruzamos el puente.

Si una frase verbal no es transitiva, no tiene un objeto directo.

• I fell down. Me caí.

• He shut up.
SEPARABLES O INSEPARABLES

Si una frase verbal es separable, podemos colocar su objeto directo entre el verbo y partícula. Para esto, la
frase verbal tiene que ser transitiva (porque así tiene un objeto directo).

• I made up the story. / I made the story up. Invente la historia. Queda a criterio del orador si separa la frase
verbal, pero si el objeto es un pronombre, se debe por obligación separarlo con el objeto directo.

• Pick up your shoes / Pick them up. Recoge tus zapatos / Recógelos
