how to
draw hair
- mini sample workbook -
THIS IS A HOW TO WORKBOOK for drawing hair! To use this, either print out
the pages and draw, or open them up in a digital art program and trace over the
pages. Practice as many times as you need to improve. I started with a bunch of
examples for you to practice the steps of drawing, but then it’ll be your turn to
make your own.

It’s okay to trace while you learn! If you share your work I’d love to see it. Tag
me on Instagram @carliannecreates or find me on YouTube for more tutorials.

general drawing tips practice time!
REFERENCE SIMPLE SHAPES PRACTICE PRACTICE
This book is going to be all about drawing hair, but that doesn’t mean we can’t
learn some general drawing tips to help us succeed as well! Here are some of my
favorite general drawing advice I think will help you become a hair drawing and
designing champion.

TIP 1 DRAW UNDER

By drawing what’s underneath the
hair (the skull) we can help make
sure that the hair is not too low or
too high on the head. FIRST BALD HEAD THEN HAIR

TIP 2 START WITH BIG

SHAPES FIRST
big
shapes Starting with big shapes help to break
what can be a complex drawing into
something super simple. Plus it’s an
easy way to make some super fun
hair styles!

TIP 3 VARY THE SIZE
big
Size variation is a great way to create
interesting designs!

When drawing hair try a mix of small, med

little and big shapes it’s a pleasing small
design and helps the hair feel more
natural too!
