A customer recently contacted Universal Multishot Systems regarding a multishot application for a 1,000 ton injection mold machine with an injection unit that was incorrectly sized (too large). The client did not want to order a new molding machine, so they presented UMS with a challenge: congure a unique mounting solution for a UMS 45 unit for the rst shot and UMS 45H oor mount unit for the second shot in a way that the molding machine and its existing injection unit could still be used. What could UMS do to solve their problem? After considerable engineering to accommodate tooling and constraints from the molding machine, UMS found a solution by stacking two 45H units into one UMS system - keeping the power and HMI control systems separated. The system was installed in early June and operated flawlessly for the customer. As an added benet, the stacked UMS units can be recongured as two standard 45H systems and can be placed on most any machine while the existing 1,000 ton machine can continue molding conventionally. The multishot process is a part of the customer s growth plan, so they will receive a return on their investment now, and again as their assets are saved for future use. This same UMS client was recently awarded additional multishot business and subsequently purchased a UMS Servo Platen to enhance its multiple material production capabilities.
