Swiss grandparents of infant found murdered in Bronx

trash-strewn woods say baby’s dad was abusive: ‘We lost
our daughter to him’ (EXCLUSIVE)

A pair of Swiss grandparents, left helpless when their daughter took up with a
boyfriend they say was abusive, were reduced to tears Tuesday after learning the same
man is now charged with murdering their 3-month-old grandchild in the Bronx.

A sobbing Rene Paolozzi told the Daily News he was expecting to hear from his
daughter Ivana Paolozzi on Tuesday about a flight back home to Europe. The call never
came and he instead learned his daughter was in police custody along with her
boyfriend in connection with the horrific slaying of the couple’s infant girl.

“Our daughter was a good girl, but she believed in him,” said Paolozzi, who began
weeping when told about the baby’s violent death. “It’s really, really hard for us all.
Nobody understands why [she stayed with him]. Only her.”

Comager had once assaulted Rene Paolozzi while staying with the Swiss family outside stabbing

reported the incident to Swiss police.

Ivana’s last message to her father came

this past Saturday. By then, Genevieve
was already dead in the woods,
authorities believe.

Ivana and her dad planned to connect

again on Tuesday to discuss her and the
baby, who the grandparents had never
met, coming to stay with them.

On Sunday, Comager’s father called

police on his son after Comager
confessed to him that the baby had died. Damion Comager with baby Genevieve, who he is now
accused of murdering.
That night, cops visited the University
Ave. shelter where the family was living and little Genevieve was nowhere to be found.
One of her parents broke down and led cops to the trash pile about half a mile away
where the baby’s body was stashed.

Comager went on to confess to slapping and shaking the baby to stop her from crying,
law enforcement sources told the Daily News.

Ivana’s mother Irene Paolozzi said she and her husband “thought about” the
possibility Comager might one day kill their daughter — and both were crushed to
learn their grandchild was instead the victim.

The exact cause of the baby’s death is pending further study by the city medical
examiner, but the incident has been deemed a homicide.

The grandparents were unaware of the infant’s slaying and the arrests until contacted
Tuesday by The News.

“No, no, we don’t know,” said the devastated grandfather. “We are sorry, sorry, sorry.
Oh, no. Oh, no.”

Their pregnant daughter and her boyfriend left Switzerland for New York this past
December after their tumultuous visit with her parents.

“We don’t know anything [since] she left with him for America,” said Irene. “And then
we don’t have any contact.”

Ivana Paolozzi and Damion Comager were awaiting arraignment in Bronx Criminal
Court on Tuesday. Comager is charged with murder while both are charged with
concealment of a human corpse.

Ivana’s heartbroken parents shared a letter to their daughter with The News in hopes
the message would be passed along.

“Dear Ivana, life is so cruel and brutal, but please never forget that we have all our
hearts with you and in such hard hours we would like to hold you in our arms,” the
letter read. “Much strength and love from the old homeland.”
