 A. USE THE TOP-DOWN METHOD

 “Top-down” means put the main idea first establishes the

context and outline of the discussion.
 It may be in the form of sentence, paragraph or lesson.
 When a reader finishes the reading of main idea he or she
has a clear idea/expectation that what will happen in the
rest of the message. With this idea/expectation the reader
grasp the writer’s point quickly.
 Put the main idea first and supporting ideas.
 B. USE HEADINGS
 Heading or heads are words or phrases that name the
context of the following section.
 Headings are top-down devices.
 It also tell us where the unit begins and ends.
Example:
Technical writing.
Characteristic of technical writing.
Audience centered.
Presentational.
Responsible.
 C. CHUNKS
 To divide a long paragraph into short paragraphs is
known as chunks.
 The basic idea is used to chunks (short paragraph
or blocks) rather than long paragraphs.
(Note: heading has a paragraph section while
chunks doesn’t have any following section.
Example:
 D. USE VISUAL AIDS.
 Visual aids means graph, tables diagram and
drawing
 Visual aids helps reader more friendly with writing.
 Visual aids help the reader by summarizing the
data by showing pattern.

E. ESTABLISH A CONSISTENT
 VISUAL LOGIC
A consistent visual logic means that
each element of format is presented
the same element as other similar
elements.
Consistent (continuous or constant)
treatment of the look help the reader
grasp the meaning.

made.
