ACTIVITY 1

1. Based on the different/competing conceptions, give your own definition of the word globalization.

Globalization is the free movement of goods, services and people across the world in a seamless and integrated
manner. Globalization can be thought of to be the result of the opening up of the global economy and the
concomitant increase in trade between nations. In other words, when countries that were hitherto closed to
trade and foreign investment open up their economies and go global, the result is an increasing
interconnectedness and integration of the economies of the world.

2. What are the three underlying philosophies that define globalization? Explain each briefly.

Realism- is an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It emphasized the role of the nation
state and makes a broad assumption that all nation states are motivated by national interest, or, at best, national
interest disguised as moral concerns.

Liberalism- is a perspective in international relations where actors and institutions emphasize relationship and
negotiations.

Idolism- at the most general level idealism refers to an approach to international politics that seeks to advance
certain ideals or moral goals, for example, making the world a more peaceful or just place. This approach rests
on a dual premise.

3. Do you agree on the working definition of globalization? Why or why not?

4. Why do we need to globalize especially at this contemporary world? To get technological and managerial know-
how of other countries due to their advancement in science and technology, education, health, and other fields of
discipline. To reduce high transportation costs if one goes globally using the advance tools of communication and
information. To be close to raw materials and to markets of their finished products which are not available in the
country of origin.
5. In your personal opinion, is globalization good or bad for our country? Explain your answer.

Globalization is good in our country because it helps the Philippines community to be more aware of what
happens to the Philippines, it also gives the idea to many Filipino people to have more knowledge and information
on the Philippines society. At present globalization is more effective in the Philippines, it helps to improve the local
and foreign companies, the culture, the education, and the development of the economy.
