Project – Food & Beverage

This is an individual project. It is worth 20% of your grade.


Daytime classes: It is due by 8:30am on Monday, June 5, 2023.
Evening class: It is due by 5:00pm on Monday, June 5, 2023.
Email your Project to your teacher. (Include your name in your file’s name!)

Summary: Create a new and unique restaurant for Vancouver. This is your chance to be creative.

What to include:
Part 1. Give information about your restaurant:
A)
● Name of restaurant ● Seating capacity (How many tables

● Design of restaurant’s name
● Seating style (Booths, benches, shared

Part 2. Create a professional-looking menu for dinner service:

- Include section headings, detailed and appealing descriptions of each item, and menu prices.
- Menu prices should reflect your choices in Part 1.
*You must use Canva (a free site) to design your menu.

Part 3. Policy information:
A) Create your restaurant’s “Customer service philosophy”.
- Choose 4 to 5 key points. Ex: Give each guest a warm welcome.
- Explain why each key point is important.
- Use complete sentences. 150-300 words.

B) Create your restaurant’s “Complaint policy (rules) and procedure (steps)”


- Explain the policy and your reasons for choosing it.
- Explain the procedure and your reasons for choosing it.
- Use complete sentences. 150-300 words.
*An example of a complaint policy could be, “Every customer should leave our restaurant feeling
satisfied.” When a guest complains, what steps will your employees need to follow in order to
achieve that policy?

Part 4. Employee information:


A) List all the positions you’ll need at the back-of-the house.
B) List all the positions you’ll need at the front-of-the house.
*Spelling is important here.
NOTE:
● You can focus on other things as well in your Project, as long as they are related to the topic.
Ex: Daily specials, beer or wine options, uniform information, etc…
● Refer to the rubric to see how you will be graded.

Submission guidelines:
● You will need to submit 2 separate documents/links to your teacher:
o Written information – part 1, part 3, and part 4 (send as a Word doc or PDF, or send
a link to your Google Doc)
o Canva menu – part 2 (send as a PDF or send a link to your Canva account)
*It is each student’s responsibility to ensure that the teacher is able to open their submitted Project.
(Tip: Send your document/link to a friend first to see if it can be viewed.)
● Projects submitted after the submission deadline will lose 10%. Students will lose another
10% for each late day.
● If a cloud-based storage (like Google) is used, any assignments edited after the submission
deadline will receive a ‘0’. (Don’t delete your files until after you have received your grades.)
*Plagiarism will not be accepted and will result in a ‘0’. Use your own words.

To avoid plagiarizing, paraphrase text by using different words and by changing the sentence
structure.
Example 1:
Original sentence: Tom is sick today, so he won’t go to school.
Paraphrased sentence: Tom isn’t going to school because he’s not feeling well.
Example 2:
Original sentence: I have to develop my English skills. It’s a requirement for my university.
Paraphrased sentence: My university expects me to improve my English.
