Care and support for people with learning disabilities

No two individuals experience the same situation the same way –

especially for people with learning disabilities. So we know that
waiting to see a doctor in a crowded hospital when you’re ill or hurt
can be particularly stressful.

At FWD Takaful, we believe that giving priority to the needs of

people with learning disabilities is not special treatment, but fair
treatment, given the extra challenges you may face. So we designed
a plan that provides you the priority you deserve.

2
Care and support for people with learning disabilities

Prioritised medical
care for people with
learning disabilities
Malaysia’s robust public health system with
universal health coverage enables every one to
get medical care when we need it.

However, it also means there is the stress of

longer waiting times, busy environments, and the
possibility of not seeing your preferred doctor.
Recovery support is also largely not covered.

FWD SpecialMed enables people with mild to

moderate learning disabilities to get access to
private healthcare and many other relevant
support services. Our first medical online plan is
specifically tailored to the needs and challenges
in getting medical care faced by people with
learning disabilities.

Getting started with your plan

You’ll know this plan is for you if you’ve

answered ‘yes’ to any of the statements below.

Do you find long waiting times at the hospital especially stressful?

Going into hospital can be a worrying time for anyone. But it can be particularly
worrying and stressful for someone with a learning disability.

Are you concerned about not seeing familiar doctor or nurses?

Some people with learning disabilities have trouble forming relationship with other
people. Being able to see healthcare workers that they are familiar with and understand
their condition may ease their anxiety during hospital visits.

Do you value more care after hospitalisation?

Follow-up appointments, treatment, rehabilitation and therapy are often essential for
recovery – but sometimes, you may need to get them at a different place and
additional cost. For people with learning disabilities, this uncertainty can cause worry.
