Year 9 English Language – How to write a formal email Ms Rebecca

To: head@stdorothys.org.mt

Subject: Making the school more environmentally friendly.

From: Carla.Zammit@gmail.com – the email addresses: email of recipient,

subject and your own email address. The subject needs to be short.

Dear Ms Anastasi, - Salutation: We address the recipient by title and surname.

I hope/trust this email finds you well.

I have been informed to give suggestions to make our school more environmentally
friendly. I am very happy to share my simple ideas and I hope that these
suggestions will make the school greener and more sustainable. - Introduce the
topic, explain what you’re going to be talking about, introduce yourself (mentioning
the class and year group is enough) and explain the reason for writing this email.

To start off,/Firstly,/First of all,

To begin with, with the help of EkoSkola, we can plant a number of trees inside
and outside school. It will create a habit of planting trees and protecting them.
Moreover, our school ground will become attractive. Moreover, such plants can be
taken care of by the students. In this manner, apart from being environmentally
friendly, we will also be learning how to be responsible by taking care of our own
plants. – First paragraph in the body: you start giving details and ideas on how the
school can become more sustainable and eco-friendly. Present a problem and then
give a solution.

Secondly, I would like to invite your attention to a very serious environmental

problem happening in our school. Most of the students are bringing their lunch
box and snacks in plastic containers and throwing such containers in the general
waste bin. I believe that this is a serious issue as the school isn’t practicing the
habit of recycling. Thus, it is my suggestion that we install recycling bins around
the school so that it is extremely easy for students to recycle the plastic
container they bring their lunch in. – present another problem and give a
solution/suggestion on how this problem can be fixed or improved.

To conclude, I would love to discuss these suggestions further and I hope that
we can work together to make the school a greener and more eco-friendly. –
Conclusion: To summarize all that has been said. In your conclusion, you should
explain what you expect to happen next. For example, ‘I hope that these
suggestions are taken into consideration to make the school a greener place.’

I look forward to hearing from you. - Closing line

Yours faithfully, Sincerely,
