Safety
SHOXS seats are designed for use in extreme conditions. Typical operational scenarios create
environments that are often difficult and dangerous for crews and passengers. SHOXS seat
installations can increase both vessel operating envelopes and typical mission durations by
providing safer, ergonomic comfort and aiding in the prevention of personal injury. However,
there are upper limits to the operation of any boat or vehicle - SHOXS is not a replacement for
their responsible operation. SHOXS seats will not prevent personal injury.
SHOXS seats have moving components. It is important for crew and passengers to familiarize
themselves with the location and operation of moving components. Keep clear of these areas
during operation.
Operators should familiarize themselves with the Operating Instructions for SHOXS seats. No
specialized training beyond familiarization is required for seat operation. See Section 2 for
Operating Instructions.

SHOXS 4800
Product Overview
SHOXS products are highly engineered, high-quality shock mitigating seats designed for
extreme use in both land and marine applications. The goal of every SHOXS product is to
provide safe, ergonomic comfort and to aid in the prevention of personal injury.
All major components are 6061-T6 aluminum, 5086 H116 aluminum, 316 stainless steel, grade 2
or grade 5 titanium. Aluminum surface finishes are highly durable, hard anodized clear or black.
Upholstery covers are abrasion, mildew and UV resistant vinyl with reinforced seams. Each
cushion is built on a marine grade plastic backing and designed for secure mounting but easy
removal to maintain serviceability. Most SHOXS components are CNC machined and
mechanically fastened to provide maximum precision, repeatability and long-term durability. All
fasteners are secured with Loctite® Threadlocker.
Rust Check® is a penetrative protectant applied to exposed stainless steel fasteners and
components before shipment as a corrosion preventative measure against harsh marine
environments. SHOXS recommends periodic re-application to those fasteners and components
for continued corrosion protection. See Recommended Seat Service in Section 4 of this manual.

SHOXS 4800
SHOXS 4800 General Description
SHOXS 4800s are specifically designed to be extremely versatile and were developed primarily
for high speed interceptor platforms used in VBSS operations. A key goal of the SHOXS 4800
design is to provide boat crews maximum flexibility during transitional usage – e.g. transiting,
high speed chases, boardings and hostile maneuvers.
The SHOXS 4800 can be configured with 8 or 10 inches of fore-aft adjustment and 4.4 inches of
height adjustment. The seat features a stowable integrated footrest to provide whole-body
isolation in the seated position. Armrests are stowable to allow occupant ease of ingress and
egress from the seat, and are robust so that occupants may brace themselves against fore-aft
and lateral accelerations. All seats are fitted with stainless steel lap belts to help prevent
ejection.

Servicing Procedures and Personnel
The service procedures in this manual outline the procedures for cleaning and performing
maintenance on SHOXS seats. Special training is not required to operate or service SHOXS
seats; however, familiarization with the seats and basic servicing requirements is essential.
Elementary work or servicing (seat cleaning, isolator pressure checks and visual inspections)
may be accomplished by any persons who have familiarized themselves with the requirements
for the task where detailed. Where specific recommendations for a task have not been made,
standard industry practices should be used.
Tasks that fall beyond the scope of elementary work, or tasks that require disassembly of
components of the seat, should be accomplished by a suitably qualified and experienced
person.

Components
Cleaning
All components exposed to salt water spray should be regularly cleaned with a fresh water rinse.
The following products are recommended for cleaning your SHOXS seats:
• Upholstery – 303® Aerospace Protectant™
• All other components – wet rag with mild soap detergent

Isolator Service Instructions

The isolators in SHOXS seats are pressurized at ambient room temperature, between 15°C
(59°F) and 25°C (77°F), at the time of shipment.
The Target Pressure for your seat depends on the specific configuration of the isolator and your
seat. Please contact SHOXS Customer Support with the serial numbers for your seats to
request the Target Pressure.
The Target Pressure is advised to provide optimal performance and bottoming

protection for the seat. Operating outside of the Target Pressure may compromise
the performance and/or bottoming protection of the seat and may increase the risk
of personal injury.
A check of the pressure on all isolators should be performed:

1) when the vessel is initially delivered to an operational area, and
2) approximately every 30 days during deployment to its operational area.
( See Figure B on the next page. )
If your seat is equipped with SHOXSPRO Adjustable, ensure that the

SHOXSPRO Adjustment Lever is set in the correct position when checking
or servicing isolator pressure. ( See Figure A on the next page. )
Isolator pressure may be checked with a standalone pressure gauge, hand pump or SHOXS
Portable Nitrogen Fill Kit. Use of the SHOXS Portable Nitrogen Fill Kit to check and fill isolators
is highly recommended. This equipment provides a self-contained and regulated source of
nitrogen. It is not recommended to fill isolators using ‘shop air’ or hand pumps.

If the pressure in the isolator requires servicing, the SHOXSPRO Adjustment Lever must be in
the correct position (see Figure A). There must be no occupant or additional weight in the seat to
ensure an accurate fill pressure in the isolator.
Fill 2 - 4 psi ( 15 – 30 kPa ) above the Target Pressure to account for some minor pressure loss
when disconnecting.

Limited Warranty Statement
Thank you for purchasing a CDG Coast Dynamics Group Ltd. (CDG) product. All new CDG products come with a two-
year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the original date of invoice. All CDG products
sold as "refurbished", "reconditioned", or "factory renewed" are covered by a one-year limited warranty against defects
in materials and workmanship from the date of invoice.
1. Limited Warranty Conditions

The limited warranty is provided to the original owner only and is not transferable. Proof of purchase will be required
for any limited warranty on CDG products. CDG’s warranty covers only those defects which arise as a result of normal
use of the product, and do not apply to any product which:
(i) has been repaired or altered unless done or approved by CDG,
(ii) has not been maintained in accordance with any operating or handling instructions provided by CDG,
(iii) has been altered or damaged by accident,
(iv) has been subjected to unusual physical or mechanical stress, misuse, abuse, or negligence,
(v) has been used other than in accordance with the product operating and handling instructions,
(vi) has been used and handled beyond what is considered to be a normal duty cycle in a typical marine
operating environment.
2. Limited Warranty Coverage

Within a period of time identified below from the date of invoice, if CDG receives notice of defect in any CDG product
which is covered by CDG's warranty, CDG shall either repair the defective product or replace with a new or
refurbished unit, at CDG's option. CDG shall have no obligation to repair or replace until the customer returns the
defective product to CDG according to the Warranty Procedure below. Accessories outside of the basic seat unit, such
as, but not limited to consoles, batteries, safety harnesses or upholstery will carry a one-year warranty from the
original date of invoice.
CDG Product Duration of Limited Warranty

Suspension seat systems (new) - 2 year
"refurbished", "reconditioned", or "factory renewed" - 1 year
Accessories - 1 year
3. Warranty Procedure
For the duration of the warranty period, CDG will replace or repair defective products. If a product is suspected of
being defective, the owner should contact CDG's Customer Support department. A representative will authorize the
exchange or repair of the defective item. Products must be shipped in the original or comparable packaging with
shipping and insurance charges prepaid in U.S. currency to CDG’s facility in Victoria, B.C., Canada.
4. Limitation of Warranty
Neither CDG nor its third party suppliers make any other warranty or condition of any kind whether expressed or
implied, with respect to the CDG products, and specifically disclaim the implied warranties or conditions of
merchantability, satisfactory quality, and fitness for a particular purpose.
5. Limitation of Liability
Except for the limited obligations specifically set forth in this warranty statement, in no event shall CDG or its third
party suppliers be liable for direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages, whether based on contract,
tort, or any other legal theory and whether advised of the possibilities of such damages.
