Instruments Used
A TSI PANDA PAN341 is used in the duct leakage testing process. It is a calibrated approved
fan blower with VSD. The range of this test rig is capable of supplying a stable flow of air
between 1 to 200 I/s. A test rig matched manometer model ‘TA465-P with preloaded
application is used. A secondary Manometer is required to confirm the static pressure
remains on or above the required pressure for the duration of the test.
Preparation
Prior to the test commencing, the testing standard (EU Standard typically), the class of duct
and the working pressure expected shall be confirmed. The working pressure is to be
established and agreed with the Commissioning Manager and stated on test documentation.
‘The ductwork section to be tested will be identified and the surface area of the section of duct
to be tested will be calculated. Blanking plates will be installed, where possible, to isolate the
sections of duct to be tested, Where not possible, a thick, temporary, non-permeable
membrane may be used, In-line plant such as terminal units are not typically included as part
of the testing and can be excluded unless requested, Ductwork downstream of variable air
volume boxes need not necessarily be tested unless requested. Other plant, such as
manufactured VCD's installed in ductwork, are included.
Test Method
Physical Details already determined for the test to be conducted are entered onto the test
sheet. Connect Test Rig to the section of ductwork to be tested. Ensure surrounding area is,
clean and clear from debris. Enter the required data from the Physical Details section of the
test record sheet into the application in the manometer of the test rig (TA465-P). Start fan,
adjust test rig until the static pressure differential is obtained. This static pressure is 1.25
times the expected working pressure of the ductwork or the maximum of the class of duct
where the working pressure is not known. Check that the measurable leakage is within the
permitted rate standard. This is defined by the EU Standard Rates classification unless
otherwise requested.
Commence the test. The test will be started and run for fifteen minutes uninterrupted with
continuous supervision confirming that the leakage rate does not increased and the static
pressure remains stable. On completion of the test, reduce pressure in the section of duct to
zero then immediately re-apply test pressure to establish that the air leakage rate is not
greater than the previous reading, Record details in Test Particulars on test record sheet
Completion
Should a section of duct exceed the permitted leakage rate, have the ductwork re-sealed and
complete the test again. Once the section of duct has successfully passed the test, remove all
blanking plates and plastics and prepare for completion of installation.
Fully complete duct leakage test record sheets and have any witness’ sign and date.
Note.
All ductwork to be carried out in the process of duct leakage testing including blanking plates
and sealing of duct is to be carried out by duct installation contractors,
