NABUA, CHRISTY JANE O. MRS.

ANNE UY-JULIAN
BSTM-2A CRUISE TOURISM
ACTIVITY #1
(Questions for Discussion):
1. How did a transoceanic sea voyage differ from a modern cruise?
 The difference between Transoceanic Sea voyage and Modern cruise is, the
transoceanic crossing is primarily for transportation only while cruise is focus in
leisure and transport the passengers based on what was written in their itineraries.
2. Explain why a seven-day cruise might be viewed as either six, seven, or eight days long.
 It is because the final day or sometimes the first day isn’t counted as into actual
sailing days.

3. Define the following:

 at-sea day – the ship is traveling a long distance without stopping at any ports.
 port day – the ship docks early in the morning and leaves in the early evening,
passengers have the option to stay at on the ship of going of the shore.
 circle itinerary- the vessel leaving from and returning to the same port.
 one-way itinerary- start at one port and finished at another port.
 closed-jaw itinerary- a flight from the same city.
 open-jaw itinerary- when an air itinerary features a return from a different city
than the one first flown to.
(Activity):
Obtain the brochure from one cruise line. Study it carefully, then answer the questions below:
Cruise line: Royal Caribbean International
Title of the brochure: Timeless Beauty of the Old World; European Cruises
For which year: 2023-2024
For which geographic region: Europe
1. Are there any cruises of four days or less? If yes, briefly describe one itinerary.
 Yes, there is and of one it is the 3 Night Cyprus Cruise. The ship is Rhapsody of
the Seas. The itinerary includes two destinations which are: Haifa, Israel in day 1
and Limassol, Cyprus for day 2. The day 3 will be allocated to cruising.

2. Are there any cruises of seven days or more? If yes, briefly describe one itinerary.
 One of their seven days cruises that I saw is 7 Night Greek Isles Cruise. The ship
is also the Rhapsody of the Seas. The destinations are:
 Limassol, Cyprus - day 1
 Santorini, Greece - day 2
 Athens (Piraeus), Greece - day 3
 Rhodes, Greece - day 4
 Mykonos, Greece - day 5
 Haifa, Israel - day 7
And the day 6 will be for cruising.
3. Does the cruise line offer pre- or post-cruise package? If yes, give a brief description of
one of them.
 Arrive early or stay longer will be decided by the passengers because they are
offering pre and post cruise hotels. According to their official website, through
their partnership with Priceline, they are offering their hotel properties worldwide
with prices up to 50% off.

4. Does the cruise line offer air? If yes, describe how it is offered (e.g., as part of the cruise
price? as an “extra” that can be booked separately? anything else?)
 They offer air transport or book air which is the ChoiceAir program that can be
book via online. It is recommended that transfers are purchased two weeks prior
to sailing. It is booked as extra from their itineraries.

5. What is the overall feeling you get about the cruise experience describe in the brochure?
Would this be a cruise you would take? Why or why not?
 While browsing and reading those brochures, it somehow makes me want to
explore the Europe. Those brochures showcase the beauty of listed destinations
and the fun activities in the ship while cruising. And if I will be given a chance to
experience it, I whole heartedly will accept it.
